Welcome to the community. As long as you stay away from cheese you should be doing fine. Check some of the the subforums, CD Reviews / New Music discussion, Unknown tracks and Tracklist requests / Postings in particular. They are a great source to new music.

why dont you check out the tracks that are up for track of the year for 2005. MOST of them should give you some good choons to listen to and give you an example of stuff other than shit like castles in the sky and what not that you would hear on the radio or in a bar.

I suggest getting yourself an overview (sound-wise) about all the different genres of trance. From techno over genuine trance over old school stuff over cheese up to progressive, techtrance and even to psytrance, all possible ... and I didn't even speak of chillout, ambient, electronic and the like - and there are even more specialisations for the fans of each sub-genre. But don't feel stressed to check everything out, just chill and listen to the stuff you like. Do it like somebody suggested, read through the forums and everywhere you see traks go check them out. If you like it, ask for similar artists, if you don't like it, don't bother. By doing that you can build up quite a big repertoire of artists and styles in a short time (I did that pretty excessively back in AG times, years ago ... and I have listened to many stuff) and will know what you like and what not. And over the time and over the months and years you will discover more and more, you will see
