LONGEST DJ SET ATTEMPT 100 HOURS - FED SQUARE MELBOURNE FEB 21st - 26th 2006

In February 2006, DJ Promo who has played at famous UK superclubs including Ministry of Sound and Fabric, plus a host of venues around the world will attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest DJ set in history.

The existing record of 84 hours was set in February 2005 by a British DJ, Genix. DJ Promo, also from the UK, intends to smash this by a full 16 hours taking the record to a new total of 100 hours live, continuous mixing.

In order to successfully claim the title and set a new, official record, 35-year-old DJ Promo must adhere to the following Guinness World Record (GWR) rules and regulations:

Vinyl discs or CDs must be played throughout the attempt

There must be no pauses longer than ten seconds between tunes

No premixing (ie: pre-recorded sections on CD, or mastermixes on vinyl) is allowed

No more than two turntables may be used (a third turntable, kept in reserve, may be used in the event of mechanical failure of either of the other two turntables)

No individual disc, and no piece of music, may be repeated within four hours

A list of all the tunes played must be maintained

The event must take place on stage in a club or similar venue, open to members of the public, and not in a recording studio

A dancing audience, even if it is a single individual, must be present throughout, but no audience member may attend for more than four hours at a time

A break of 15 minutes must be taken every eight hours

To achieve his 100-hour target, DJ Promo will spend more than 4 days on his feet at the decks, without sleep,

playing in the region of 1500 records back-to-back. The set will incorporate all genres of house music, from

jazzy vocal to tribal progressive, and a selection of his own tracks. The attempt will take place in a transparent

nightclub built especially for the occasion in Federation Square, Melbourne.

The event is being staged in a bid to raise funds for two Australian charities:

The Big Issue, which enables homeless people to take steps towards getting off the street; and

Challenge, which supports children and their families living with cancer and life-threatening blood disorders.

Genix, after setting the current record, described the days he spent at the decks as some of the most difficult in his life.

"I found this a lot tougher than I could possibly have imagined, he said. After the first two days, I thought I would do it with no problems at all. Then the third day became a lot tougher, with the lack of sleep really starting to kick in. When Saturday came around, I didnt know where I was. I didnt even know how to use all my equipment! If someone ever tries to break my new record, I will happily congratulate them. Its such a tough thing to do I would personally never attempt anything like this again.

no fvcking way. god, i think the jews got off lightly compared to anyone who has to listen to 100hrs straight of house. id prefer to have sex with soups.

good luck to him though! my back gets a bit sore about 90mins into a mix

genix shouldnt have wasted so long mixing for guiness records and written more tunes like reconnected

Dude, House music, wether you like it or not is dominent accross all genres.

i say, if you can make house music enjoyable for trance lovers then youre onto something.

99% of my posts are at work to fill in time. thus 99% of my posts are full of shit. thus ignore 99% of anything i say i dont care what he\'s playing just wanted another opportunity to fly my anti-house flag

there are so many genres of house, fuck i love house music (except your handbag variety which i loath). I think you would actualy enjoy some of the 'uplifting house' that djs like Steve Porter are incorporating into their sets PKC, very melodious but they have that funky bassline to it that make it great fun

Deep Chicago / French house my favorite atm

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jan-10-2006 23:51:

lol.

damn fvcking straight i dont understand it especially those 1-bar melodies. fvck. ive had bouts of vicious diarrhoea that sound more pleasing than those...

Posted by Teflon_Teapot on Jan-10-2006 23:51:

so effectively he is going to be going for sleep for over 108 hours with all the promotion and so forth afterwards? if that was me i would tell everyone to f*#k off because i was going to go to bed and then celebrations would be conducted when i woke up. good luck i say. is matt going to be at tilt on saturday night ben?

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jan-10-2006 23:54:

ok, im highlighting my useless degree of knowledge, wtf does handbag mean?

youre right tathi, funky basslines with decent trancey melodies arent too bad at all *thinks of serge devant*. theres a nice blurred line between prog house/trance that i quite like. but fvck the rest of it. or at least, i dont see why its dominated the tassie edm scene for as long as ive been going to clubs for music...

Posted by tathi on Jan-11-2006 00:17:

"handbag" is your generic cheesy bullshit batty commercialised house, they often contain inane lyrics about "love" eg. "i love you baby", "i can't stop loving you baby", "each day i love you more baby" (no joke this could be three different songs) it is bland, predictable, boring and may as well be played on video hits.

I think the name comes from the 80's when everyone danced facing each other rather than the DJs, and groups of women would throw their handbags on the floor and dance around them in a circle

i have no doubts he will break this.. and all for a great cause too. a very professional proposal for sponsorship too

Posted by aL_mAc on Jan-11-2006 00:52:

as if your gonna want to schmooze VIPs and sponsors after being awake for over 100 hours... thats not really fair!

does the record attempt become null if a member of the crowd satys longer than 4 hours? how will that be policed?

so many questions!! haha

good luck to ya promo.. i dont envy you at all!

Posted by Teflon_Teapot on Jan-11-2006 00:58:

there should be another record attempt tied to this. the longest time spent continually chin stroking.

Posted by eROs.au on Jan-11-2006 01:01:

Record for worlds longest forum post promoting an event goes to Anomyst!

In all seriousness that seems like a big waste of effort.
