I feel SO DIRTY.

Okay so I just spent the past little while getting my Rogers high-definition terminal all set up to produce the native 720p resolution that my new TV does natively, and it's awesome.

Only thing is, at this time of night only 2 of the HD channels are actually being broadcast in 16x9 high-definition. The others are just converted SD signals.

I sit down to watch one of the channels, and it happens to be PBS HD. Oh goodie! Like I said, it's late at night, and as such there's no program information available through the terminal's guide.

To make a long story short, I spent the past 14 minutes watching the man from the original Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory wine and dine a sheep, get a hotel room, order room service, and ultimately engage in the act of sexual intercourse with said sheep (no, it wasn't graphic you sick bastards, it was 'suggested'). In high definition.

How much per month am I paying for this? Thanks Rogers, thank you very much. If you'll excuse me, I'm off to play on the 401.

For the ADD crowd, here's a Cliff's Notes:
I watched a dude seduce a live sheep then screw it, on high definition tv.

Surely you can enjoy Sportsnet's HD broadcast overnight....

thats so august 2005

Vertigo, some channels are 4:3 but still HD, they're not upsampled. Some shows are upsampled because they weren't done in HD.

Hockey on TSNHD is an orgy of details.

Sometimes there's too much details, when you see hair nose, on females, i believe its too much

rogers hd pwns. discovery for the win!!!

Posted by muzzybear on Jan-11-2006 15:51:

Don't forget to not leave your 16:9 TV on a 4:3 signal for too long or you'll get "burn in" because of the black bars. ESPN HD at least has light stripes on the sides when they're not playing back true 16:9....

Posted by malek on Jan-11-2006 16:48:

you can't have burn ins on DLP/LcoS/LCD rear projection tvs.

Haha! I didn't notice the "rear projection" thingy.... duh on me!

To be honest; Rogers HD is a ripoff. Maybe if the sound/picture didn't cut out so often it'd be more worth it

Posted by malek on Jan-11-2006 16:56:

actually the only channel that deliver with HD is PBS, all the rest are not good enough imo or most their programming isn't HD.

HD at the moment is a ripoff.

+1 as I prepare for Cale to tell us we're all fools.

You need better cables or a better box (or call Rogers to bump up the signal to your local depot). The digital break up is from low signal or poor box reception, not the signal the company sends out...

you're half right.

The company can compress the signal so much to save bandwidth that the quality of the image and sound are subpar... This is another form of ripoff

I love HD. Yes there are only two channels broadcasting in HD 24/7. But many of the big network shows are all shot/broadcast in HD. Not to mention sports too, so nace.

For the extra $10 hell ya it's worth it.

Posted by malek on Jan-11-2006 17:43:

its an extra 6$ here and I feel like I'm ripped off.

Not only i'm paying for the regular channel, I have to pay for the same content in HD.

whats even more BS is that you HAVE TO have basic cable to get HD.

whats even weirder, is sometimes when i'm watching a program in HD (like Lost, NFL Sunday, or any other show in HD); I *sometimes* get a ringing sound coming from my TV, and I know it's not my ears cause if I turn it off then it stops. At first I thought my TV is at fault...but this only happens when I have an HD signal coming in from my box, whereas when I use anythign else it's fine.

Anyone know what's causing this? Maybe interference from other cables?

I get this too occasionally, and a popping noise. If your HD terminal is the Scientific Atlanta 3250HD, reset the box. It fixes the problem for a few days. The guys on DigitalHomeCanada's forums have no ther solution other than this. Everybody seems to hate this box, but it's all Rogers has.

******s.

Multiplexing sux, too... like with the movie channels (they fit so many channels on one line - like 4 to 1). That usually causes the picture to freeze, but dropouts are reception and signal issues... (I was trained on those scientific atlanta boxes when they first come out... I work with HD at Rogers now...) .

What do you do in Montreal, Malek? And you're friends with Tatgirl, too, I know (her and I go waaaay back).

Is there any way at all to make this 3250HD box not suck shit when changing channels? I'm talking a wait time of almost 2 seconds before the channel and info show up.

Use the guide.

I do, and when I select a channel to view it takes the same amount of time to come up. It is unbelievably annoying.

Also when will Rogers start offering CableCARD tech? Aren't we here in Canada like 5 years behind the USA in this stuff?
