problem with torrents

i have bittorrent and ive downloaded a few torrent files, but when bittorrent goes to start the download it just stays at 0% and doesnt download it.are there certain settings that have to be right?anyone know what the possible solution is?

You behind a firewall....or are using an ISP that blocks torrent traffic?

Also, it could be a torrent that has no seeds, so it won't download anything since it doesnt have a source.

the most common problem with torrents is when people don't open their ports. Go to google and type "opening ports (router company + model)"

make sure the torrent has seeders

port forwarding or no seeds could be your issue. what program are you using? i had a similar problem and it turned out the version i was using just didnt work for me even though i had all my ports set etc. when i went to an older version it worked. *shrug*

While we're talking about torrents, I am going to recommend http://utorrent.com/ it's great

What they've all said already. You need to log into your router and open ports. The default ports are 6881-6889 I believe which is fine for most public trackers. For private trackers you normally use ports other than the default. Try a torrent with a lot of seeds like a TV show or something that just came out last night.

ya, i think the default ports for torrent are now blocked by ISPs.
Look for a website that has all the ports default uses. Look for one that that has no uses.
I believe my other computer uses 4081

Packet Sniffers are coming to an ISP near you...

My ISP recently installed them. Bittorrent average went from 100k to 1k overnight.

Now its up to 20k ( I suspect they are trying to figure out what the minimum to give people is without them leaving the ISP )

i got sbc , and my rates are various . sometimes in the 100s , and sometimes in the teens . rarely if it drops under 10, only if i don't have any seeders ... but my 2 cents is that you don't have any seeders . try some random torrents to see if it works ?

oh yeah, and ta does not support p2p ..

It's not a seed issue. My ISP is now internationally famous for it... lucky me

It is NOT an internet myth. It's just that no Australian ISPs do this yet. MANY international ISPs are actively shaping BitTorrent and other p2p traffic - some like Rogers (Canada) aren't just blocking BT ports, they inspect packets and throttle BT traffic.

The fact that you're insulting me about how many posts I have is retarded in its own right, especially considering you've only been here a year longer than me. In other words, fuck off and don't be such a bitch.
