I live for the sick and twisted movies and this one just plain sucked

Posted by DigitalMP on Jan-12-2006 16:53:

Then why go see any movie?

It's not like you were forced to choose this flick. Each one is a chance you know very well that you're taking.

yeah but tarentino films have a reputation for being original, edgy, and just plain good. I know he didnt do the movie but it has his name all over it.

I think if you watched this movie you would know what i mean. Its just horrible. Movies like this inspire me to make a film with a digicam

Posted by DigitalMP on Jan-12-2006 17:02:

No, because I don't leave a movie bitter if I didn't prefer it.

I go to a movie and come out having learned more about something, and looking at a part of life in a new way, whether I enjoyed the entire ~2 hours or not.

The same for movie reviews. Siskell and Ebert didn't like every movie I did, so I don't expect to enjoy every movie they rated 4+.

i do get bitter.

i pay money to be entertained.

i can see both your sides on this issue....but i gotta say...hostel was just plain TERRRRRRIBLE. lol

it ranks way up there with worst movies made.

i normally dont bitch about bad movies but this one crossed the line.
its almost as if they just put tarantino's name on it just to push ticket sales.

Posted by DigDeep on Jan-12-2006 17:31:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hostel/

its actually getting pretty decent reviews......

LOL

What was so bad about it? (I haven't seen it yet or ever?)

I have yet to see a Tarantino-related film or show I don't at least like...

the few people i know who saw it, said it was graphic as hell - but they enjoyed it. i guess they were expecting what it delivered.

Posted by jon jon on Jan-12-2006 17:45:

it's not even a "Tarantino film", he directed it, NOT produced it. BIG DIFF

Posted by Time2Burn on Jan-12-2006 18:23:

Yeah wasn't too impressed. In classic Tarrentino style (maybe thats why he put his name all over it) it has absolutely over the top shock and gore. But maybe even too much for Quentin. It was like Saw but 10x more gorey and 10x more predictable.

Posted by Timmah on Jan-12-2006 18:32:

I haven't laughed that hard in a theater in a long time
I found this film to highly amusing. Not that I enjoy torture, but the "gore" was just over the top, hence I laughed.

I gotta find 15 little street kids to be army.

I thought Hostel was pretty good. Its graphic to a point but not too disgusting. Its actually based on a true story. The beginning was just like a soft porn act, holy tits everywhere. I would rate it a 7/10.I did like it but its the kind of movie you only watch once.

And you can pay them in candy! If you don't of course... you know what happens.

you mean the other way around. he produced it not directed it. Eli Roth directed it.

Too Disgusting? Damn I guess you missed the blow torch scene... that was f'ed up.

And yeah it said based on true events... what I would like to know is WHAT EVENTS? - no way this shit happened.

That is nothing compared to the achilles tendon part. I almost puked then, and when he stood up and the crackling sounds came across the speakers I distinctly remember saying "OH FUCK ME RUNNING" awfully loud.

I enjoyed the movie though. I like how it went like mundane, mundane, mundane, HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK. Half and half.

I just saw it and I didn't think it was very Tarintino-ish...but I did enjoy it. It's definatly not for people with easy stomach's but I dunno...I like sick twisted stuff like that.

The scariest part is that it could be true for all we know. My friend was telling me about the back drop for the story. The director (I forget his name, but he did Cape Fear), had come across a website in Thailand or something where you could pay to torture people, and people in Thailand were selling their kids to this place to make money. He was going to do a documentary on it, but who would admit to something like that? Who knows if it was real or not...
