Another Bust

Six G.T.A. residents have been charged after a huge bust by the R.C.M.P. on Thursday.

The Mounties Drug Squad accuses four Richmond Hill residents, a Markham suspect and a man who lives in Scarborough of importing 4,500 kilograms of something called MDP2P.

The full name of the substance is mouthful - methylenedioxyphenyl-2-propanone but what its used for is something youve definitely heard of.

MDP2P is the main ingredient in Ecstasy.

Cops claim the amount they found is enough to produce an astounding 30 million pills worth of the illegal party drug. The bust was the result of a five-month investigation that stretched from B.C. to the G.T.A., and beyond.

Investigators claim the powder originated in China.

"Ecstasy production in the G.T.A. has been on the rise and recent investigations have shown that this increase is tied to both domestic and international markets," Supt. Ron Allen relates in a statement.

He notes theres no way for users to know exactly whats in the substance theyre taking and the results can often be deadly.

Much of the profits from the illegal trade heads straight to organized crime.

And there could be more people hauled into this drug dragnet the R.C.M.P. investigation is still underway and there are arrest warrants out for at least three more people.

I thought MDMA was the main ingredient in Ecstasy, I've never heard of this MDP2P.

i love how citypulse articles are written as if the audience is 6 years old.

this part insults my intelligence

that both insults intelligence and acts as an emotion provoker all in one. It's a very manipulative line to use in a media report.

CityPulse certainly isn't the news source of academics - so why should it be written for academics?

I love how the police always estimate an astronomical number proving their lack of real knowledge. Of course I can't speak specifically here but I'd imagine the actual amount of pills is a small percentage of that 30 million.

The expertise needed in MDMA production varies according to the route of synthesis. Over twenty recipes have been described in the literature. Only seven are common. Clandestine production is easiest starting with MDP2P. MDP2P (3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl-2-propanone) is a commercial product used by the flavouring and fragrance industry. Groups with access to MDP2P can make MDMA via a simple conversion process.

Produces about 1.755 kg of MDMA (1,755,000 mg). At 100 mg / tablet that is 17,550 tablets.

Assuming we can use straight ratios (2812.5:1):

Would produce 4935.9375 kg of MDMA (4,935,937,500 mg). At 100 mg / tablet that would be 49,359,375 tablets.

Thats why you gotta buy in advanced and buy in bulk...just like my great grandmama used to say...haha

that really sucks for those guys though... they are in it DEEP... this seems to be becoming a bit of a habit for TO...busts left and right... maybe these producers should take some time off and let things settle for a while... i dunno.. i guess thats what i would do for a bit anyways... its all about the money though i guess when it comes down to it

On a related note, thought some of you might like to check this site out:
http://www.ecstasydata.org/

Its amazing all the garbage that is found in this stuff in the states- caffeine, dxm, fentanyl, ketamine, and meth. Maybe Canada stuff is better since much of it is now produced domestically?? In this states, I think much of it is smuggled in from overseas.

The red apple in Indianapolis caught my eye though- 309 mg of pure mdma. I saw these at a club here in Montreal in someone's hand. Apparently Canada is now becoming a supplier for the states?? Montreal supplying Indianapolis. Very interesting.

^^^

see, that was the "con" that someone pointed out on some lame news story here too.

ketamine in e, you say? hook that shit up!
