Fixing a clipping recording

I have a vocal sample which clips. What would be the best way to correct it?

well thats the problem with sound, what you get is what you got. It's very hard i think to correct if it's a bad bit of clipping.
thats why they try when engineering songs that you got to get the best quality cause it's most likely to be Irreversible!

next time make sure your recordings don't clip (most important rule!!!!)

Thanx guys, I thought as much. Its actually not my own recording. I have played with compression, limiting, filtering so far and got it much better than it was, but obviously not perfect.

I've seen a few plugins that attempt to restore clipped peaks. They work by using a spline as an estimate of what the clipped waveform should have been. It takes a lot of processing power, and if the wave is clipped too much the spline will not compensate for loss of detail.

I think Sonic Foundry (Sony) have a plugin like that in their Noise Reduction package.

You can't fix a clipped recording. Period. Ever.

The waveform restorer in Wavelab can help improve the quality a little bit, but it will never be perfect.

just try to hide the clipping as much as you can without comprimising in sound quality too much.

I agree, it depends on how bad it is. If it's horrible, I'd suggest trying out a few plugins as aquila suggested. Is it female vocals?

had the same problem with one of my projects... imo can't really fix a clip problem, can maybe try waves bundle plugs...

it depends just how bad the cliping is. If it is a minute click, it can be drawn out in protools (and probably other sample editors), but if it is a totaly overdriven recording, then it is best to rerecord if that is an option.
