Decent Speakers

Hi, Im not a Dj or a Producer but I am looking for a good quality all round setup so I can fully appreciate the tracks i listen to. I would ideally like not to have to buy a seperate sub as I am tight on room. Any advise is much appreciated

That's a pretty general question..

Where are the speakers going to be? loor standing, on stands, on wall or bookshelf? What do you listen to? What other gear do you have? Amp, CD player, computer etc?

And probbably most importantly in your case.. How much you planning on spending?

There will just be on top of a table which my monitor and cpu is on.

Mainly listen to Trance / Hard Trance & Occasionally Hard House.

Dunno with regards to how much i have to spend, say something like no more than �150, obviously if there are better options which are more expensive than that i would consider it.

I'm now considering the M-Audio BX8's as i can get them for �230 and i'm fairly impressed with them from the demo i got of them by Luke Terry.

Nearfield monitors are mean to be listened to at close range to avoid the issue of room acoustics and there is generally a sweet spot designed for the listeners head to be placed at. Veering too far from this spot will not give you an accurate picture of the sound and certain frequencies drop of at a distance. It all depends on the individual monitor I suppse, but if your not intending to sit infrom of them and really listen, then monitors would be a very bad choice for enjoying music. A good set of quality bookshelf speakers would do you much better.

find some tidy 70's/80's speakers from mordaunt short or celestion or warfdale. theres loads on ebay.

you ll get a nice pair of speakers from the golden era of hi-fi. before everything went all silver painted and rubbish.

if you dont make music you dont need monitors. just hi fi speakers.

get an old 70's/80's technics amp to run them (an all metal one)

if you go this route, I'm doubful that you'd want a sub... the 8" drivers are more than enough to fill a small room.
