Hey all,

Not really a 'musical' question, though it can come in handy for my music straight away

My C drive (system/boot) is 250GB, though when installing Windows 2000 Pro, it only 'sees' max 137GB at first (being only at Service Pack 1). When upgrading to Service Pack 4 and installing the Maxtor 'big drive enabler', the remaining GB's came available, though unallocated to the rest of the C drive...

Now I was wondering how you could add the unallocated partition to the C drive? Or isn't this possible?

I haven't installed much on this pc yet, so was wondering if the PC kept recognising the full 250GB after making a new Windows 2000 Pro install after a format?

Any help appreciated

A fresh Windows 2000 Pro installation without the drive patches will *not* recognize the full drive on a reformat/reinstall. This is why you should not use legacy systems; Windows XP SP1 and above have no problem with large disk drives.

In the meantime, Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director can adjust partition sizes without erasing the data.

I installed Windows XP Pro and it does immediately recognize the bigger hard drives.

A friend of mine did need to use the big drive enabler after having installed WinXP Pro though, I guess it isn't included in all versions?

You may not need Partition Magic. Make all of your disks dynamic in Windows Disk Management and then extend the volume using a software RAID stripe set. It may not let you extend C: if it is your system partition however.
