It's now confirmed

The Radio One party @ Nikki Beach is a no go.

"We can now confirm that we won't be holding a BBC event at this year's WMC. Unfortunately the BBC's live event budget has been cut significantly, and because Miami was one of the most costly events it was the first to go.

We'll do everything we can to find a way to bring it back in future, and you guys posting here about how much of an institution it became does help. We're just glad that last year's event was so momentous and a great way to say goodbye, if only temporarily.

Meanwhile we'll be doing our best to create the same amazing vibe at Global Gathering this year (which the BBC partners with in the UK, and hopefully will be involved in for Miami in some way), so we'll see you all on March 18th!"

fucking BBC. Make shit all programs anymore and the public are legally forced to pay for it or go to jail. Joke.

I don't get this...they could have easily charged a nominal cover charge to help cover cost, say like $10-15 or so. Which I am sure many people would have more than happy to pay to keep Radio 1 there. Instead Wetgrooves is charging $30 for their party at Nikki Beach and there still isn't any lineup announced -- and it would have to be super stellar at that price!

First Ultra moves from Bayfront to Bicentennial (with Joakenfold as a headliner), now this!

The only event so far announced I am totally gung ho about is Armada night (with Maganite) and I am sure Space is going to be absolutel rammed. I'm having a hard time justifying my trip and expenses to WMC at this point. Good thing all my flight and hotel reservations are cancleable...Guess I'll have to see what events start popping up in the next 2 months.

obviously, but top gear is seriously about the only program worth watching on a weekly basis on the BBC. We have to pay over 100 a year to the BBC per household, and i think most people watch less than 5hrs a week of BBC, i watch 1-2hrs a week, top gear only normally.

Posted by trancEyes22 on Jan-18-2006 20:01:

now i feel better that i can't go- because last years BBC was sickkk!

true I hate that fucking BBC TV licensing...they charged us only 60 quid in our flat in Manchester though mostly cuz it was student living...I watch Top Gear only on the BBC the rest is like Channel 4 if Im watching TV at all beside sport

WMC aint the same w/out this party. This was the 1 party my local Miami friends would go to with me. Booooooo!!!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if last year's party fiasco was also a mitigating factor in deciding not to throw it.

A shame either way. A big shame....

Posted by el.maestro on Jan-20-2006 04:22:

If the budget was the issue, the solution would be to move the party to another location. The event draws enough of a following that it would not matter if it was held at a hotel or even my back yard. Book it, and they will come.

That sucks... that was a great party last year!!!! Well there will be others but the Radio1 parties always were my favorite FFS! IF it was a money issue... they should have charged to get in... I heard most of the DJ's spun for free. I think last year, there were alot of problems with noise, later in the day.

ya, it turned to total shit

they started by turning the outside speakers WAY down (due to local noise complaints i think), and eventually if i remember correctly, they just shut it off

the inside party was still hot fire tho

...wonder how they will keep the same thing from happening at Wet Grooves, or the Defected party?
