I went to Cozumel two years ago this March, and had an incredible time. The island is far enough removed from Cancun to not be so miami-beach-esque, yet close enough that it is easy to get flights to (I took a direct flight from Philly). It's also tons cheaper than Cancun (7 days accomodations Cozumel < 2 days in Cancun). The island also has some of the best diving in the Carribean, which is primarily why I went. However, there is world-class fishing in the area, and the island primarily uninhabited outside of San Miguel, so there's a lot of adventuring you can do. I stayed here within walking distance of downtown.. I dunno - I had a great time. I also hear St. Thomas is beautiful. Happy hunting

Although I'm not sure where your from and I have been almost everywhere, it depends on what you want to do. I have a great travel agent in Baltimore with outstanding prices on cruises and week long vacations. Their phone number is 1-800-343-9244 mostly everything is all inclusive and airfare and hotel and food and drinks. Last year we went to the D.R. again and it was during spring break and the people there were great and you can take excursions all over the island. Or just stay at the hotel and gamble if you want. Ive also been to P.R. and lets just say WOW just beautiful. Aruba the same thing it never rains there. Just dont let your girl wonder off. Cancun is just one big party. The Bahamas the same thing. The Caymans is nice if you want quiet. But somehow I doubt that. Hawaii what more can I say I would live there if I could.I hope this helps you some and the travel agent has a website but I cant remember it, so when you call the number they will give it to you and just remember that the trips that you listen to change every week. I checked for you and the website is gonowvactions.com I hope that helps.

Brazil is not INEXPENSIVE!
Flight alone will cost you about $800USD

I do recommend it though as it is one of my life destinations.
Carnivale usually goes on in Feb, Sao Paolo and Rio are the hot spots

Ok here's my round up and suggestions!

At the top of my list!
Puerto Rico - stay in San Juan with plenty of casino resorts of 4+ stars. great food, great sangria, great atmosphere, and most of all - GREAT WOMEN!

Nassau Bahamas - Atlantis the myth the legend! it's grand alright...got the cash live the life go for it

USVI - St Thomas, St Troy, St Maarten, St John
This is the place to be if you want to get that eclectic taste of the carribean. you'll find everything from beautiful beaches (meghan's bay - paradise cove - st john) to the best duty free shopping!
less resort like more hotel and travel the island like...wonderful waterfalls in the hidden tours. also a great place to bargain, everything as far as habana cubans to 2 worm tequila to movado's at over 60% off, you name it they got it.

Ocho Rios - nice island to visit, wouldn't recommend staying as its more of an attraction island.

Dominican Republic - another hot spot down south. I've been to DR about 3 times already and i can't say anything bad about it. In comparison to amounts of fun i'd rate it 6 out of 10.

Cozumel - think cancun but 50% degraded in debauchery. more relaxation with the hustle and bustle of market bargaining.

Aruba - got a significant other, affordable during off peak, lovely beaches and romantic dinner spots

Puerto Vallarta - wonderful, simply wonderful! People are friendly, the girls are hot, the food is great. It's just a wonderful. (edit - sorry this is mexico, i forgot to mention and got confused with puerto plata which is an island in the carribean. i've been to vallarta in mexico and not puerto plata )

I'm sure I missed alot...but those are the ones off the top of my head.

My order of choice:
Puerto Rico
St Thomas
St Maarten
Puerto Vahllarta
Nassau (atlantis)
Aruba (+significant other)
Cozumel

the list can go on and on...
there are so many islands to hop I say you hit the big ones first then find the hidden gems.

Hope I helped!

Check out changes.com because I used it 2 months ago, and got a very cheap all-inclusive (that means all your liquor!) a gorgeous hotel, wonderful people and service, unbelievable beaches...all in Ocho Rios, Jamaica! I went alone (yes, white girls are completely safe there) and had the greatest and most relaxing time ever.

Take a carnival cruze along the east and west carribiean. Kind of expensive but fun, no contact with normal civilazation for a week or 2. Cayman islands, puerto rico, st martins, and the keys

Puerto Rico is awesome...i recommend staying at Dorado Beach Club or the Carib Hilton.

St Maarten (Dutch Side) was boring to me...sand was crappy, water was so so...but u can venture to the French side to one beach (i forgot the name) but duck your head when the planes come on for landings. Not worth the money and that goes for the rest of the Virgin Islands.

Bahamas = AWESOME

Cayman Islands - Doesnt get much respect...but the beaches are KILLER and the water is awesome...i think it was an 80s thing...cus i never hear of anyone going anymore.

I am still set on Australia because they have the best beaches...one day i will go.

St. John in the USVI is probably the most amazing place Ive ever been - its super laid back tho, so dont go there looking for nightlife, etc - just unbelieveably beautiful uncrowded beaches. I hear Harbour Island in the Bahamas is also amazing, as is Anguilla (near St. Martin)

St. John .....

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Jan-18-2006 02:19:

i like megans bay much better!

Posted by PVD_S11DJ on Jan-18-2006 02:47:

st. thomas = ghetto

.... magens is a really nice beach tho

I strongly advise NOT to go on a cruise... it is my opinion, but you only get to experience the tourist stuff. And, being raised in a touristy (sic) area, I naturally hate that shit and realize that places often have things to do that are a thousand times more fun that what the tourist gets. Only by stayng in an area, getting to know some locals, and exploring can you get the really good stuff. If you want to be pampered on an over-priced floating hotel, have at it, but it's def not my style

Come with me to Puerto Rico. I plan on going there myself for 2 weeks or so in march/April
