Da Breakz Discussion Thread (Previously: BREAKS ARENA 2005)

This thread is for those who are insterested in discussing & sharing their love for breaks music.

Seen a lot of Download threads offering House, and so on.
So I thought I'd share something a little different...

This time we have: BREAKS ARENA 2005 w/ STANTON WARRIORS, RENNIE PILGREM, ATOMIC HOOLIGAN AND JAY CUNNING

For those of you who haven't figured it out yet, Breaks Arena is the equivalent of Trance Energy, or Sensation in the Breaks genre. The dj's featured are leading Breaks acts, and they have all delievered at this event.

The first act is Stanton Warriors, whom throw down their recent style sets which primarily consists of their own productions and remixes. Although it doesn't match up to their various-artist mixes, its still a decent collection of their work and style.

Up next is Rennie Pilgrem, personally one of my favorite breaks djs right now. Here he plays a very funky and groovin' breaks mix, gotta love his style. This mix will definitely get you movin.

And Finally, Atomic Hooligan and Jay Cunning B2B!! This is probably the best act in this entire download. When the EXCELLENT track selection of Jay Cunning meets Atomic Hooligan's BREATH-TAKING turntablism skills, you have one of the sickest breaks sets you'll ever hear.

P.S. Does anybody actually read my review? and do you guys find it helpful? or shall i stop wasting my typing typing it? lol

hmmm, yea, the way i see it that threads mainly trance/house.

since this is a little different, i decided to make a new post as most people wouldnt look in that thread for breaks or dnb, and such.

Think of this as the equivalent of "househeads" (which make a new thread everytime) but the breaks and dnb version.

If someone wants to start a themed group that commits itself to 52 weekly threads (no more, no less), each with complete full review of a live set - feel free.

If someone is going to post the odd set, regardless of genre, they should use the already created download thread.

I'm only one man (for now) so I share 'em as I get them. I don't have the time or resources to do 52 reviews, and uploads.
but these posts are genre based, just not weekly regular features.

but i guess from now on i'll make an "offical breaks and dnb download thread" if that'll make you happy

is there a rule stating that???? if not then lay off his back man. you may not appreciate it but this is one ill set and if it was at that "official" thread some of us would probably never even see it. so chill man, no need for hostility, lets all sing together :

Laughing gas these hazmats, fast cats,
Linin' em up like ass cracks,
Lay these ponies at the Track,
It's my chocolate attack.
Shit, I'm stepping in hotter this year,
Care bear bumpin' in the heart of this here,
Watch me as I gravitate,
hahahahahaaaa.*
Yo, we gonna go ghost town,
this motown,
with yo sound
you're in the blink
Goin to bite the dust
Can't fight with us
With your sound
You'll kill the Inc.
So don't stop
Get it, Get it
Until you cheader header,
Now watch the way I navigate,
hahahahahaaaaa
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

and then

Windmill, Windmill for the land.
turn forever hand in hand.
Take it all in on your stride.
it is sticking, falling down.
Love forever love is free.
Let's turn forever you and me.
Windmill, windmill for the land,
is everybody in?

AWESOME SHIT

i just uploaded a set and posted it on here, if we are dedicating this thread for breaks only then wouldn't it be better to change the name of this to "breaks downloads" rather then the name of the set?

and btw kick ass set, thanks for the share.

sweet. i'll see your set and ill raise ya SLOWBURN STYLEZ (a-side)

"Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada?s breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that?s become Chu?s rallying call - and it?s one that crowds answer faithfully. Whether it?s at his residencies at Toronto?s legendary Breaksfest events, Fridays bi-weekly on the Dynacord at Boa-Redux, or every Saturday at Toronto's superclub the Docks.

In a city renowned as one of North America's largest party scenes, Chu has played alongside the worlds finest, allowing him to develop his own distinct style of breaks. Chu's sets can vary from hard beats to melodic funky down tempo sounds, but always remains a crowd mover.

The born and raised Torontonian began spinning in London, Ontario while taking his undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology at The University of Western Ontario. Chu quickly garnered attention at local parties, leading to gigs in Toronto, including the Dose event in the summer of 1999 when he was asked to fill in for Barry Weaver for his second appearance in the city. He so impressed organizers that Chu was then asked to play the 14,000 plus crowd at the annual Dose Freakin Halloween event later that year, and as since become a mainstay for Toronto's largest party companies, like Metro Productions (Kickit and Out of Hand), Lifeforce Industries (Dose, Syrous and Renegades), Empire, and Liquid Adrenaline.

Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his biggest musical influences. Its this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly.

Away from the turntables, Chu produces original tracks, both on his own and in collaboration with fellow DJ, Incog, under the moniker of Zoo Soundsystem, which recently released the track Fever on Torontos Promo Records. His future projects include releases on DJ Loves Stellar Music label."

blc hooked me to breaks, good old days at system's backroom. this man is truly a genius behind the decks.

this set is one my favourite breaks sets ever. you got your 1's and 2's right here, kinda homey vibe but bodybreakin nontheless.

for more of his illnes check out www.bigleaguechu.com

ill upload second part when i have some time.

p.s. sorry but i suck ass when it comes to tracklisting

I finally gave this set a proper listen, and I gotta say, I'm loving a shitload of tracks on it. I just wish there weren't so many tracks to be IDed. I hate unknown tracks.
