Probably. Maybe you're just getting bored of trance. Sure there's alot more crap tunes that are being made nowadays, but I'm thinking most of the people who just call everything new 'shit' have just had changing tastes. Personally I've been loving some of the releases this year. Zocalo, Eastern Sea, Air for life, all classics in my book.

Posted by RapidFire on Jan-20-2006 19:13:

d'oh i cant think of any!

i apologize. that was lame.

Posted by ambrus07 on Jan-20-2006 19:15:

i don't want to start another 'trance is dying' thread, so i'll just say trance isn't what it used to be. for myself, i stick to the classics for the most part, while others find refuge in electro, proghouse and techno.

but yes, if you're expecting another year like '98 to come around, well, it just won't. don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

the golden age may be over but the movement continues...

I undrestand where you coming from. but to be honest I don't really want another "98 to come around", I like the way that trance has improved in last couple of years, like more melodic tunes been produced and so on....is just that not many good tunes been produced in the last couple of months. But im sure it will peak up one day again! I think there are some good tunes due to come out in couple of months by some "famuse" producers ;-). is just that its hard to WAIT for them to be released!!

hey, that's good, I already thought I missed something over the years

I don't mind what's being produced at all.

EXACTLY, EVERYONE - FUCK OFF!!!!

Posted by slinkyhead on Jan-21-2006 21:14:

often a bit quiet this time of year tho isnt it, some releases are held back for Miami Winter Music Conference.

haha most classic "I am dumb so shoot me please" - reply on TA.

so if people think a certain movie is shit does the director shout at them "If you don't like it make a better movie yourself" ?

Posted by zoric on Jan-21-2006 21:26:

I've heard that one before RebeL9

Posted by spc on Jan-21-2006 21:32:

maybe in the next decade some good trance tunes will come out

Yeah, and it's funny that noone can ever think of a response to that. It proves that it's fucking stupid to think that noone's allowed to criticize music.

Posted by stefanoc on Jan-21-2006 23:24:

maybe youre havent one of these 'moments' when you stop enjoying the music you like. maybe the 'moment' is a season long. take a break and listen to other styles, and see if you crave trance.

your taste definetely changes. the more you hear trance music the more picky you become at what you like. since noone makes the music that satisfies your pickiness, you assume trance is dying.

trance is changing. i dont know if trance means the same trance as it meant 5 years ago. IMO it has changed alot. plus others make trancy tunes and call it trance which ruin the definition.

if i can explain trance as of today with one song, i would probably say:
Airbase - Escape
or
Thomas Bronszwaer - Close Horizon

then you can also call these tracks uplifting trance maybe??

first of all, what do you enjoy? do you prefer synths or accoustic sounds? vocals, dubs? uplifting, tech? what was the last few songs that were on the top of your list?

Posted by Rainborn on Jan-21-2006 23:24:

Some here are in somewhat denial, and that's natural when something's going down the shizter.
IMO, what we need to do is pretty kick back and try to enjoy the tunes that will be released during whatever time.
I really don't know... I haven't been into EDM for a VERY long time like some have, but I can certainly establish that I do enjoy the stuff that is produced now adays.

it's difficult to be THAT naive and how are you supposed to force yourself to enjoy music which is obviously lacking alot of the elements. So basicly what you are trying to say is that it doesnt matter that the trance of today is crap - we still should try to enjoy it just because it's... trance? That doesn't make sense.

My advice is to dig up these particular three releases and enjoy.

No. But people do make independent films on tiny budgets, many of which prove to be better than these mulit-million pound blockbusters at cinemas.

However, the cost involved in producing music (if you have a computer) is absolutely zilch, so anyone can learn to do it. This isn't the case with film making, so you can't properly compare them that way.

I wasn't intending to stop people criticizing music. If I think something is bad, I'll be the first to say.

Reading my first post again, I realise that I came across as a bit of a know-it-all tosser. That honestly wasn't the intention. What I was trying to say is that any person could probably make something they like more than the vast majority of music out there. So, instead of incessantly complaining that everything is shite, and expecting people hand something they want on a plate, they could be entrepreneurial and make what they like.

However, let's not get into a pointless argument over something so minor.

music and movie is both a form of art so of course they can be compared. I don't really get your arguments. Are you trying to say that the majority of the trance producers are working with cheap software, hence the low quality of music? I really don't think that the technology is what draws the borders. In most cases it's the producers creativity. As you said there are independent movie makes who make outstanding movies with a low budget. How do they succeed? Because they are creative and instead of copying others makes something new. If we had alot of independent trance producers today who tried this we would have alot more interesting productions released today.

And we the consumers are just the consumers. The producers nor the labels are telling us to produce something better if we don't like it. Our job is just to consume the music. If we like it they'll get happy. If not they propably won't care but in the best case they'll take in the criticism and do something about it .
