I can imagine 99.99% of the crowd going WTF is this shit?

Heck, it's hard to get EDM lovers to like minimal techno let alone an average joe.

I wouldn't say minimal techno has a lot of energy.

Then again, maybe it's just me.

Oh great. Now I'm gonna fall asleep to the opening ceremonies. Am I the only one that gets bored by Hawtin?? I know I'm not. I love techno- I just can't get into his style.

Surprised they didn't pick Mauro Picotto, since his hometown IS Turin, Italy. Then again, he's really sucked lately.

Jesus fuck.

What the hell does this have to do with the olympics!?!

Other than the fact the two man luge is probebly the closest sport to gay marriage.

That's cause its not really club music...way too slow to dance imo but it's good to chill out to.

minimal house / techno is HUGE right now in germany AND in europe!

u go on the bus in germany and u will hear minimal choonage ... u cant escape it now!

and the biggest and most popular nights in ibiza this summer were all parties that had minimal tunes playing ... (circo loco, monza, cocoon etc) ...

I heard he isn't even going to be there, he's only collaborating with someone on the music for the event.

Richie Hawtin has created a piece of music for the XXth Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony taking place on February 10th in Torino, Italy.

The new composition titled "9:20", was written & produced by Richie Hawtin and made in collaboration with renowned Italian choreographer, Enzo Cosimi at Hawtin's Berlin studio. It will accompany Cosimi's provocative choreography featuring famous Italian dancer Robert Bolle along with dozens of other dancers, performers and acrobats. Hawtin & Cosimi worked together to build an evolving soundscape of sounds and effects to accompany the different movements of Cosimi's piece. The composition will tie in with the theme of the Opening Ceremony, the foundation elements of Rhythm, Passion and Speed.

"Enzo and I are very much interested in pushing boundaries, both as artists and for our audiences. Working together for the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Games delivers the creative endeavor to not only entertain a huge audience, but to also introduce them to sights and sounds that they may have never experienced before," says Hawtin from his studio in Berlin.

This is not the first time Olympic ceremony producers have called on an electronic or dance music artist. The Athens Summer Olympics in 2004 also saw Dutch trance DJ Tiesto mix during the Parade of Athletes.

i'm not really a hawtin fan, but cool non-the-less to have an EDM dj at the olympics...i'm a little skeptical as well though that ppl willl be asking, wtf is this? unless he decides to go mainstream under the pressure.

Posted by Euphorica on Jan-20-2006 16:19:
