Lightbulb TrancEaddict Radio Hopes

Sooner or later its gonna happen this much we know. We had a lil version of it up awhile ago nothing official but those of you in the chat that listened got the basic idea. With that i ask, what YOU the listeners would want? It'll be small at first but for me the long term idea would be a 24.7 .net station broadcasted by diff people. Sometimes Live sets, and at off peak hours just songs being played. Other ideas were guest djz etc etc.. Just want some info and see some other ideas about this. Tempez

Posted by j_spot on Jan-15-2002 09:16:

I think it could be a great idea, but I could see bad things happening too. Ppl will wanna spin on it, and the logistics of letting everyone spin is pretty tough

then u could have ppl slaughter the newbie DJ who doesnt have a tough skin yet and have a huge problem with that....but

it has potential. Much potential. DO IT!

Posted by Spective on Jan-15-2002 09:17:

Yeah totally! Tempes and I will organize this shit!!! Anyone who doesnt trainwreck more than me and Tempes combine will get in!!! If you are a little shy, and get nervous when people are listening, just record your set honestly and well give it a play. Dont worry though, noone expects you to be Paul Van Dyk or a Spective..otherwise wed be hearing your name all over the place right? So email tempes or me at [email protected]! Tempes, post ur info too!

Thumbs up

Count me in! I support
Plus i think 24/7 could be enough for those Djs voted to spin anyway.

Posted by TempesTrip on Jan-15-2002 09:23:

j_spot, at the beginning we would try to just see what happens figure out a schedule. Not EVERYONE has to be spinning 24.7 Some can just play trks jus to fill the time. its the quality of those tracks that matter and what we are concerned with. As for people that want to spin. Demos will definitley be sent out and evaluated to those in charge of the station. At first of course there is gonna be mad openings, but we can't just chose some half ass cause there is an opening. ya know? And spective is right no one expects a pvd out of you, but we don't want someone who just saw a TT for their first time. Demos of course are a must, but as i said b4 this is basically to get an idea of everyones input. Tempez

this idea rocks, we had this in our thoughts a long time ago, and with much organising it could work very well.

Posted by DJ_D|ABL0_ on Jan-15-2002 12:55:

I think its a great idea. Bring it on!!

I've got no idea how you'd implement it, but I don't think thats a problem cos you guys seem to know!!

Posted by Ste on Jan-15-2002 14:15:

it wud be a good idea, but when cud u be off peak? there Central euro TAs and pecific time zone TAs so would we get all the shit? also id listen to it i just dont have a fast enough modem n sometimes people have very diffy idea of trance to others n that cud make it difficult.

Posted by ABTsportsline on Jan-15-2002 14:26:

Spective? I've never heard of him.

I have a 24 hour radio station (FM) down here that i broadcast livesets (mainly armin and ferry, some marco v. and gielen thrown in) .... if i could figure out a way to shoutcast it, it would be able to be "another station" for trance.... But no one wants to help explain how things work in the shoutcast department.

As for the TA radio idea, i think its great... but remember what happened last time we tried that? Besides i think we need to get more people listening to the "unknown tracks" streaming radio first.... that should be playing everytime someone enters the site.

Well as for the speed issue like i said we'd start it off small then eventually have diff quality streams to suit your bandwith. As for diff taste i guess we'd have to just diverse ourselves, but try to stay as far away from the comercial and cheese crap as we can.

We never really made a full blown out effort for that. It was just something to do when the chat launched.

Come into the chat and pm me, i'll help you out with that, its not as complicated as you think.

Well i am only a 56k user, and i download a lot of music, so i find it hard to listen to online radio, but it sounds like a top idea, and maybe some rich person should start up a TA adsl company, so i can get a cheap adsl service

Posted by Fatboy on Jan-15-2002 17:54:

I think it's a great idea

I remember when we had people, for example tempes and simcut, spinning in the chat. It was fun. And I think there's enough time for lots of people to spin, so I don't think that will be a problem..

Peace

Posted by flystyler on Jan-15-2002 18:00:

And with the fact that this forum has people from all over the world, it would b very easy to have people spinning through out the day

Posted by Rustang! on Jan-15-2002 18:35:

Here's an idea:
Instead of various DJs spinning live on TA radio, various people can send Swamper (or whoever is running it) sets that they recodorded, and then based on how good they are they can all be played pre-rocorded. This is also kind of better for some DJs because some people can spin better pre-recorded sets than when they spin live (it's a psychological thing). please don't flame, it's just an idea

Posted by Spective on Jan-15-2002 18:43:

Rustang, it is definitely a good idea for maybe during off peak hours, that we have the DJs that are too nervous for a live audience, to just record sets. Though, it is much more entertaining hearing a live DJ and chatting with him or her at the same time. In my time with TA, I have never heard one of our channel residents ever bad mouth a DJ that trainwrecked, maybe just pointed it out, but never go "U FUCKING SUCK!! UR JUST A WANNABE DJ!! GO BACK TO SPINNING WHEELS!!" nah, this doesnt happen..I know from experience...I have trainwrecked a few times, and I am still doing my weekly show. So to anyone out there that is a DJ, TA Radio is not about criticizing other DJs...It is about putting up a forum, where DJs can get the spotlight for a couple of hours, and expose themselves to the world. Its really all about the music, and thats what we are all here right?

ABT, great idea, but it is illegal to broadcast a radio stream without their knowledge. Although I do sound like a total hypocrit because I download mp3s, but god damnit, I BUY VINYL! So yeah, since that radio station only broadcasts recorded live sets, we might as well just cut out the middle man and do that ourselves. I strongly discourage the idea of playing live sets of the big jocks out there, since the point of this is to provide a forum for DJs who arent as big as Paul Van Dyk and SPECTIVE, but are looking towards it. Tho, I doubt anyone could surpass this Spective guy, hes just BLOODY MARVELOUS.

It's true that live DJs are more entertaining, but this is a good alternative for the DJs with a slow connection, or certain setups which would prevent them from being able to spin live. I didn't mean anything about trainwrecking or anything like that, because i know that everyone has good/bad days, and that the people on this board criticize mixes in a posative manner.

And about "off peak" hours, there's no such thing. TA is worldwide and that means that at any given time there will be people listening.

One thing that really got me thinking though, is where would these DJs be spinning from? Not only would the main server have to be fast and stable, but if a DJ wants to spin from their setups at home they probably won't be able to. even those who have cable or dsl could face some problems because upload speeds are usually capped at around 50 k/sec. just thoughts coming into my head though...

Posted by skywarp on Jan-16-2002 06:33:

Good idea - but only if there's a required level of professionalism and quality present among the DJs. Strict schedules (if a DJ commits to a certain timeslot then he better honor the commitment). Also, a little more musical variety would be welcome, not have the same DJs bang out the same tunes over and over again. Also, bandwidth might be a problem as well, especially on a high-traffic site such as TranceAddict. I doubt Swamper would be able to provide bandwidth necessary for a shoutcast stream, especially considering the state the site is in right now.

Hah! although i hardly see how would they ever find out i was broadcasting radio stream? i have no commercials or anything, for all they know i could be a DJ spinning .... and besides, my operation is so lo-pro and lo-key that i dont think anyone would notice

Cheers

Posted by j_spot on Jan-16-2002 22:59:

ok..so pretty much all of us think its a good thing...well thats cool.

I dont really think the server would be an issue, the way ppl shoutcast now doesnt use TAs server(I think) and we could do it the same way, just throw a TA label on it, and add a link...

Posted by Tony Morello on Jan-17-2002 03:06:

since i'm a production major for radio, i think i could whip up a batch of ID's to play for when the station is just running regular choons, or if someone wants to stick em in the middle of a liveset...

i could even make DJ identifiers... "you're listening to (insert name) live in the mix on tranceaddict radio"

if this peaks anyone's interest, i could spare some time, PM me if you're interested...

BTW: if you're a little sketchy on my skill, i'll be upping a demo tape to my website sometime in the near future (only my old on-air demo is up right now)

Posted by JayD on Jan-17-2002 03:25:

I also think its a good idea although some little things should be changed so that the same thing wont happen again.

A year ago when we had it we used to stream @ low bitrate which was understandable because back then probably the majority was using 56 k at the time. I think thier should be a bitrate for low bandwith & people with high bandwith..

Also, alot of radio edits help . Not cheesy radio edits, but when someone isnt spining, a shuffled winamp playlist would do the trick . Some oceanlab, cosmic gate, above & beyond radio edit will do the trick & more . It's not a problem hearing the full tracks play, I mean there are a couple extended trax that are radio friendly. Just have to find them thats all.

And, dj's from both US & NL time zones heh. Not all people are able to hear people spin at all times of the day (peeps have different schedules).

Everything I said is pretty much
