Moving to Shreveport

Hey there S. Central TAs,

Well, I found out that i'm going to be moving to Shreveport, LA sometime this upcoming summer - i'm getting stationed at Barksdale AFB. I don't know exactly when, but it'll be sometime after May 6th.

I'm coming from Ames, IA and just wondering what i'm going to be getting myself into coming down to Louisiana.

is shreveport good? bad? i know Dallas is only around 2 hours away, or something like that.

i know it's still months down the road, but i'm excited to travel, and see something different [and to get the hell out of iowa]

So any suggestions on what to do, stuff to see, [things maybe to bring?] etc... would be helpful.
