F.E.A.R.
I've played it last night. damn it's a hard game. and the tension
damn... I'll give abit of advice: don't play this game in a dark room on your own. It reminded me of "the blair witch project"
the gameplay is good, but it's kinda hard. because the AI of your opponents is damn good. allmost real life
the scenery is amazing. But I think you need a good computer to play this game. When I played it. there was alot of delay when enemies started shooting at you. kinda difficult to shoot back
overall score=7
what do you guys think?
i thought i had a half decent machine till I put this on - damn it's slow with any decent resolution and damn ugly on the lower settings. A good game by all accounts but u need the hardware to run it. Half-Life 2 runs fine and looks good in comparison on my spec.
Oh well - time for an upgrade.
Yeah, that is the first game im gonna get - when my new computer arrives
.
piece of over-rated crap that was badly coded, far too short, and subpar when compared to either doom3 or HL2 on almost any level i consider important in gaming. all these level designers seem to fail dismally at creating realistic environments, they look static, un-lived in and after 100 or so rogue spear titles going back a decade, thoroughly uninspired.
no idea why people rate this game at all. *yawns*

I don't agree at all with it being subpar to Doom 3 and Half life 2.. i own all 3 games and f.e.a.r does something which neither doom 3 or half life 2 did.. it was original. It scares the hell out of you but not in the conventional shit jumping out at you from behind walls way like doom 3 did.. this really screws with your mind. ghosts and apparations mixed with the use of being able to go into slow motion make this game much more interesting and original than any other fps iv played... not to mention the fact that i recently jumped harder at f.e.ar than i ever did at doom 3, and trust me iv had some pant pissing moments in that game. *remembers that bugger coming from the floor*
half life 2 was absolutely immense no doubt, but you can't really compare it that way to f.e.a.r because they are completely different.
i love all 3 games, and i can't slate any of them.. they all have their own special attributes which make them very good.

FEAR loses half of its awesomeness when you have to lower the graphic settings to play.

if a game loses its awesomeness becoz you have to turn the graphics down then the game cant have been that good in the first place.

^^ well, like ive already stated, FEAR = bad coding. and atmosphere is a whole-package phenomena, not *just* graphics

for the life of me i cant see how the look of the game = such bad frame rates on lower end machines. sure, i dont have a ninja machine but even at the lowest settings it still ran like a dog. whereas doom & HL ran fine at the medium settings, and looked awesome. room mate has a ninja PC and i think it looks like shit to be honest.
and i disagree with you when you say graphics and sound are the two biggies (tho i think theyre obv important). how about execution? or the ideas the game can implant in your head which creates the atmosphere. i thought AvP looked pretty shit when it came out yet the atmosphere was sensational.
