Best Toronto Party /Special Events Venue?

There are so many venues in which a party/special event can be thrown --> Palais Royal, The Docks, Kool Haus, The Guv, Digital, Turbo, Envy, etc. Some are really good while others just suck cuz of size, ventilation, or location. Personally, I love the Docks as a venue. Last year's Connected was there and it was amazing. Armin was there last Nov. and I had never seen the Docks look so good. I think it's just the right size. I don't know, there's something about the Docks. I also like Kool Haus too. What's your opinion?

Everyone seems to be revamping their location, making the venues even better than before.. for now, the docks is probably the best to be transformed into an amazing area for special events and such.. and its location is great for the summer

I would say the docks and the Kool Haos they the best so far I loved the docks in wintergalactic'01 I had a fuckin grate time then. Tiesto at the kool haus now that was sweet but it was better at wintergalactic'01. But what realy was good! was when I was in london, Uk at the MOS party but thats a party in diffrent level then here in canada so ill leave it out

For me the best venue is the Guvernment. That place always generates so much energy, its awesome. The laser is about the best I have ever seen, and the phazon sound system is amazing if they get the right sound level. Had so many good times at the Guv., I love that place.

Yeah, as a venue I'd say Guvernment is the best. The only disadvantage is that you don't really see the DJ.

I heard somewhere that they're moving it so it's more intimate so I'm pretty curious about how it will look on Saturday. All in all, the guvernment has the best all-around package for a club...I don't think the Docks can even compare

I have to disagree with some of you guys, the guv is a f-cken sweat pit! no air, no room! But it does have a killer sound system and lights!

Kool Haus is much better, they have ventilation at least! but the sound system is not as good and lights are ok!

The Docs is the shit in the summer time!

I missed all the better living and automotive building raves, they must have been awesome!

you wont see any differce this saturday!
but in february they are closing down the guv for 3 weeks
for a $million+ facelift.
It should look AMAZING by the time they are finished.

I'd have to agree with ITIKIA, GUV is such a rat hole. But DOCKS can't compare with Guv's light show and sound system. I also hate the fact that you can't sit anywhere at the DOCKS..

GUV can be a Gino-sweat-box but I'm workin' out like a mad man so I don't sweat as easily, lol!

DOCKS is pretty good but it just don't have the same intimacy; seems just a bit too big.

When they held the Destiny Productions at Atlantis is was great! I didn't break out in a sweat once and then some stupid by-law that changed the venue to the Royal Palade. THAT's a rat-hole; reminds me of a lame school gym...

Well, right now i would have to say that The Docks is a wicked venue for parties (not club events) because it's big, it can be transformed and there's also seperate rooms. The Guv is good when they have the huge events like Summer's End and ones like that. Better Living Centre was cool, but not good in the Winter for one reason... it was unbelievably cold in that place. So right now, Docks takes the cake for me, but i still say Toronto needs a new better and bigger venue.

On special events. The DJ's usually spin on the stage. But yea, I hope after the renovations,they change the Booth.

Kool Haus is coming up as a good venue. On Tiesto they didnt have the Quad placed. The sound was much better on new years when they did that. Plus they also had lasers there that night.
I was very impressed.

But still, the bottom line is, there is nothing like the Guvernment!! I've heard people say that, Toronto needs a better venue. Guys, I've met so many people at the Guv from all over the world. Each and everyone has been in awe, In total amazement......

but yea, the best time for the Guv is the summers. one big reason for that is the patio......that makes a big difference. They should cover it up in the winters and make it a lounge or something. But I guess they wont do that, cause they've made it all Miami style. Will have to do a lot to change it according to reflect the winters.

I remember in November, the patio was open and it started raining!! a lot of people rushed out. I completely lost it out there. It was soo crazyyyyy

Well then, don't be shy, by all means tell us where the "right" places are!! Oh, and BTW, welcome!

I've said it before and will say it again, the Guv's sound "system" may be great, but the "sound" is often not. It's often too distorted. For Smirnoff Experience they had it quite decently tuned, so I know it can be done. The lights are great. Not nearly enough room to dance, so overall it gets a thumbs down from me. Unfortunately, they have the money and bring all the big talent.

Yepp - the Palais is pretty ratty - it's like partying at a legion... which is not far off cause the PNS (Polich National Society) used it as a legion type hangout for about 40 years, until recently that is. That venue could be absolutely goegeous if they would restore it to its past glory. There is a lot of history and energy in that place, its too bad its so run down.

All the big venues are still there... its just that you probably won't be able to afford the 9000 required pay-duty-officers that bill out at some insanely high rate. So if you can afford to pay them its no problem... heh - but who has an extra million to pay off the man?? I can think of better things to do with it personally! There was the Unity party this summer at the BLC I believe, so these things are possible - just not the cash horses they used to be. And if you were to throw a "sensation"... the people would come. You have to market it as far away as LA.

SO what are you stuck with - lots of small undergroundish places, which hold a couple of hundred peeps, or the docks, or the guv. What we really need is someone with lots o cash to throw a trance party at The Gardens or something crazy like that...

I mean PVD at the Guv in the Fall was about ideal capacity for the Guv - you could get around, and still dance. I hate that place for big events because the put too many peeps in there and do not have appropriate throughfares to deal with traffic flow... the basically need a hall that is 30 feet wide between the guv & koolhaus. Like enough with this one way traffic BS. The guv often has far to many "no shirt wearing big tittied men macking on bigger tittied women" (paraphrased From Tribe) for my liking. I mean you can see that at the gym. They should start having parties at Bally's or somthing. LOL

But I mean the venue is only part of it - vibe sez a lot... Industry was a gross, sweatty shithole, but the vibe kicked ass, and it was a great time... the vibe has dwindled in recent times, because of things like overcrowding - you goto the latest party at the "club" with the attitude its gonna be crowded and you probably won't be able to see the sets you want to because of too many peeps being there. Obviously these clubs need to make money - but there has to be a better balance point. IMHO...

All in all I like the WAREHOUSE (aka Koolhaus), and Docks. The Palais is cool too but needs work or a huge decorating budget.

Its time for another mega club. The docks is pretty limited, but we need another Warehouse type place... big, high ceilings and basic. Let the promoter do the decorating... ramble ramble ramble....
