Canada's ex-prime ministers in reality TV gig By Etan Vlessing
Thu Jan 26, 3:58 AM ET

TORONTO (Hollywood Reporter) - As Canada's Prime Minister-elect Stephen Harper basks in his election victory, four of his predecessors are set to become judges in a reality TV show called "The Next Great Prime Minister."

Canadian broadcaster CTV on Wednesday unveiled plans for the show, which will premiere February 4. Five young Canadians will endure public speaking and debate challenges to transform themselves into a possible national leader. The prize includes an internship in a Canadian public policy think tank.

TV reality shows have long depended on stage veterans like pop stars, supermodels and actors for celebrity judges. But this format will see former prime ministers Kim Campbell, Joe Clark, Brian Mulroney and John Turner passing judgment.

We're doing a fine job of producing crappy tv shows on our own thank you very much. We don't need you trying to compete with us.

Whatever, at least it's trying to mold intelligent people and not crank out dumber than dogshit bubblegum pop stars a la American Idol.

And hopefully it will raise some political awareness because I'm a big nerd and I think that's a good thing.

They've been involved in politics for a long time so they know how the system works.

Exactly... American TV is sickening. From MTV to Bachelor to Big Brother to Jerry Springer... they strive to dumb the population down. Seems to be working.. have you seen today's youth thse days??? (ugh I must be getting old to make a statement like that)... lol

I'd be curious to see this show... interesting concept.

i grew up in california, but moved to toronto...i live here but i still go to ucla, but one thing is OBVIOUS, the ignorance from the american public towards anyone other than themselves is unbelievable.

Worm Popper

I once tutored a girl who said that her dad was Kim Campbell's campaign manager.

I nearly fell off my chair trying to restrain the laughter.
I had to excuse myself from the room for a bit to clear my head.

LOL this reminds me of when I lived in Minnesota and South Dakota for a couple years through high school... I lived in a hick town and some of the questions and comments I got were MIND blowing:

(These were asked with 100% seriousness by people ages 16-40)
-When do you celebrate Christmas?
-When do you celebrate Easter?
-Oh, so this [-40 degree] weather is nothing for you
-OH you're from Canada? Do you know [enter name here]?
-Isn't Canada a state? (this wasn't a jab, this was a serious question)
-Why would you use the metric system when the whole world uses our system?
-[I had someone that couldn't find Canada on the map]
-What state are you from in Canada?
-You have "providences" there right [ok, this was a good effort... but still funny]
-[occasional igloo and dog sled comments - some were asked in all seriousness]
-[which usually spawned from the question] So do you guys have cars there?

Man oh man.. I could go on allll day with these rediculous questions... and th ebottom line... Americans genuinely don't care about other countries. They're not taught about us in school nor do they WANT to learn about us. They live happily in their patriotic little bubble and tear the rest of the world apart with their lack of knowledge. Unless a country will drastically impact their ecconomy, they just plain don't give a shit.

It was an interesting two years to say the least...

canadians are quite ignorant too in different ways. Sure we know more about the US than they know about us, but ask someone here about their own politics or what goes on in other countries and they are just as, if not more clueless than their american counterparts.

an australian girl who was here for a few months told me the same exact kind of story only the people asking her were from right here in toronto.

"do u celeberate christmas in july since the seasons are reversed?"

"do you have pet kangaroos and koalas?"

"do u have mcdonalds?"

Those were some of the dumb questions she heard from various people.
