yeah thats what i hear is the earliest although sony keeps saying theyre on target.

i thinks its cuz if they went public now saying xmas 2006 or early 2007 people would say screw it and get xbox 360 but if they say summer and then in july say sorry its now december, people will say ok ill just wait the extra few months, ive waited this long already.

The insider information that I read about has some grim news regarding the Sony PlayStation 3 as a whole. Apparently the entire design team was fired and all old blueprints were scrapped around 3 months ago after the first batch of units produced all overheated shortly after being powered on. Due to the overwhelming power of the Cell processor and the multiple cores, the cooling system devised for the device was nowhere near as efficient as originally planned. If these "inside information" turns out to be true, Sony might be in a huge mess and might end up delaying their next generation console till 2007. There's always the other alternative where we get a quickly-thrown-together console so as to not release your console last out of all your competitors. I'm hoping Sony's a bit more composed and does NOT rush into this race if it doesn't have a complete console.

---

The release window for the Sony PlayStation 3 was last slated as:

JPN: Q2/Q3 '06
USA: Q3/Q4 '06
PAL: ??/?? '07

I'm more inclined to say that the later quarter per region will be the actual release date for said region.

---

Some good news for you, however, is that the images of the console that you know as the "Sony PlayStation 3" all (but a select few) seem to be missing the little stand-up next to the device saying that this is a "concept design". There's a chance that the PS3 will look very different from what we are seeing Sony constantly promote.

A little bad news to follow that is the fact that Sony has decided to stay with the Batterang-style controller as a standard. While it looks weird, the peripheral might be more comfortable and handy than we think. However, most gamers would have it unchanged from the original Dual Shock controller for the PlayStation 2, seeing as how they believe in the motto "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

---

I hope that answers any and all questions that arose in the other thread. If not, ask away!

If I had the time, I'd definitely delve deeper into the world of electronics. My forte revolves around the video game industry so if there are any questions regarding that, I'd be more than happy to answer them.

Ready to plop down between $450 and $500 for a device that will lack a hard drive?

While the price tag might scare people away, it's actually very close to the cost of the original Super Nintendo when it was released, had inflation in America never occurred. The price tag equivalent would be around $400 USD, if it was re-released as a new console right now.

I'm not aware since I don't frequent those websites as often as I used to.

The information that I received came from a developer's blog from http://www.cincomsmalltalk.com/

It basically said:

quote:
The PS3 is delayed until 2007, the decision for this came about through the failure of the initial hardware the PS3 Development Team created. Apparently, 300 PS3 Units were created and sent to various software developers to begin creating games for the new system. However, design flaws in the PS3 (Specifically, not enough coolant) caused the systems to overheat and meltdown after moderate use by the developers.
According to my DM (District Manager), Sony went and fired the entirety of the PS3 Development Team for this flaw. In short, from what Ive heard, if Sony gained anything from this experience, its minor technical knowledge on what the PS3 can handle, but for the most part they were sent to square one.
Sounds a little over the top to me, but if the basics are right - that problems with the PS3 are going to delay the launch - then MS just got a huge market boost for free.

"Insider information", apparently. However, these could be nothing but rumors.
