Richie Hawtin 1990

what a dish lol

Posted by GrimReaper on Jan-27-2006 00:13:

If that IS Hawtin, i looked almost exactly like him in around 1990. I had same kind of glasses, very much the same haircut and even my face looks pretty similar to his in my old pics.

Posted by Marc Summers on Jan-27-2006 00:21:

why does everyone pick on hawtin...

Posted by Radagast on Jan-27-2006 00:24:

He looks like Garth Algar with shorter hair...

I think it's him. The shirt is right, Toronto...Ontario. If you look at pictures of Hawtin now the nose, lips, and eyebrows are pretty much the same.

suddenly i don't feel so bad about my glasses that i used to wear back in 1990

Posted by RJT on Jan-27-2006 00:29:

Hahaha! I looked like that when I was a little boy (Circa 1990!)!

Hawtin has had kind of a lot of "looks" over the years huh?

Posted by Radagast on Jan-27-2006 00:34:

I actually looked slightly nerdier around 1990. Perhaps much nerdier. My nerdometer isn't the greatest.

"No ladies wait til you hear what i can do on ableton"

Posted by Inertia on Jan-27-2006 02:03:

guys you gotta remember. this guy is a music/tech geek. he used to sneak across the border when he was around 14 to listen to DJs. he would stay in a room for days tweaking a 303. he hand modified a mixer with his dad (which is/was Robotics General or something for GM).

he was probably a fucking social outcast. now that he has a LOT of money, he can afford to do nothing than play with music gadgets, and hire stylists and publicists to get him a nice image.

i think it's cool that a geek like him gets to have a 'cool' look and get the crowd loving him n shit. gives us geeks hope.

that said... i had a similar look once

ive ditched the glasses and have let my hair grow long now.

Posted by Dublin Guy on Jan-27-2006 02:08:

never said he wasnt a geek!

he should have gone to specsavers tho

Posted by Inertia on Jan-27-2006 02:11:

radical change tho...

1990:

"Hi... My name is Richie and I like detroit techno, long walks on the beach and and 303s. I'm a little shy..."

2005:

"OMG, even the way I look down at my custom made Allen & Heath mixer is so cool... I OWN YOU! DANCE PUPPETS, DANCE!"

"You! Dude with weird pants I brought with me to help me set up, where are my fucking loops?!" *screws with ableton*

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Jan-27-2006 04:39:

This should be all the evidence you need to document Richie's transformation from 303 tinkering techno geek genius in the corner to bloated techno trend poster boy.

This might be a good thread to vent my disagreement with Richie turning all minimal and bleepy again

Goddamn I wish he spun like he did at Extrema last summer every time.. Hard, deep, danceable, sheer awesomeness..

Although I very much liked Transitions, which is a great home listening experience, I'd like to hear him spin somewhat more danceable stuff when live.

You were wrong. This thread is about how stupid Richie Hawtin looked in 1990 and how stupid we all looked in 1990. Get the fuck out of here, music man. You're the music man here. We don't want no frikkin' music men here. I bet you looked like a regular casanova in 1990. You think you're better than us, don't you music man? Well i'm here to vent my disagreement, music man. MY DISAGREEMENT WITH YOUR FACE!

...may my loathing of Richie Hawtin pervade your dreams
