U2 - Where the streets have no name (NU Nrg mix)

I'm not sure if this has been asked already, but does anyone know if this is getting a release and when? I've heard of a few people that have CDs of various Where the streets remixes but I don't know if they're official releases of downloads.

Thanks

Stu

I believe it's signed to Monster Tunes.

Posted by zoric on Jan-27-2006 13:21:

I'd heard rumours on here that SOME Nunrg stuff was getting released, possibly on Monster, but this is the first Ive heard of a U2 release

Hope its true, but thered probobly be a ton of licencing issues

Last I heard it was not getting a release as U2 wouldnt licence it.

Shame really, this is the first NU NRG track I've been willing to buy since the Sunday Afternoon remix

Not sure either if it'll be released on Monster Tunes. But some tunes by Nu-NRG will be released over there.

As for U2, I'm going to e-mail them and tell them that they need to licence this track.

JOC remix ripped off Nu NRGs remix - plainly, shamefully and blatently.

It was listed on their site under Apex - Virtuoso ... just checked again though and it's now listing remixes by Factoria & Marc Sherry instead. Oh dear.

After all of the hype that I had hear surrounding this tune, I finally heard it when Ferry dropped it at the Love Parade San Francisco last year. My review...

Very, very disappointing. You wouldn't recognize it as a U2 remix at first, as it was basically just a kick and a bassline. When the break kicked in I got a massive amount of goosebumps, because I'm a huge fan of the original version. However, the break was just the strings/intro of the tune looped for shortly over two minutes, and felt as though it dragged on, and on, and on. When the beat kicked back in, the strings and melody were gone, and there were no vocals. The vocals, in my opinion, make the track. The tune built and built and built, and then dropped down.

Granted, it was originally done as a live thing for their live act, so I'll give them credit for it, but I don't think that it works well as a single. Shorten the break, add the vocals, and you've got yourself a tune.

6/10

My video of Ferry at Love Parade San Fran. It starts like, just after the break hit, and stops shortly after the beat kicks in. However, if you'd like to know what the rest of the tune sounds like after the break, just imagine that beat looping for a couple of minutes.

Heh, I see what you mean, but isn't that the beauty of this track? The basics?

In many cases, yes. However, remixing Where the Streets Have No Name means that it is required, in my opinion, for you to use the vocals. They make the track, and each time I watch that video, I expect to hear a guitar build-up followed by, "I want to run!" right at the end of the break.

When a tune requires vocals and it doesn't have them, "the basics" don't mean anything.
