-- A funny example of American ignorance and arrogance
A funny example of American ignorance and arrogance
Ignorance? Arrogance? Naivite? You decide.
So I'm reading all these articles and news stories about how Congress wants to restrict Internet porn (we've already covered the "conservative" Puritan angle of this -- some people are actually interested in how you spend your free time, and want to control it, in a "free" country -- how about that?, but that's not what this thread is actually about).
In any event, I'm reading all these stories, I'm reading about fat congressmen debating and passing laws, I'm reading about "concerned parents" and CyberNanny and SafeSurf, and I'm thinking, how can all these people be so STUPID, to completely ignore the INTERNATIONAL angle of this all, and to think that America is the whole world? How stupid can they be to imagine that the Internet is just about the US and its laws and values, and that it can be controlled by a single country?
It's hardly news that many Americans don't know much about the rest of the world (recall the joke about the "World Series" with only one country represented), but.. isn't it hilariously funny, that all these Congressmen are passing laws, and American parents are safely assuming that their SafeSurf is doing the job, while their children are equally comfy browsing German or Italian porn sites?
What's equally astonishing is that no one in the American media has even brought this up. The word "international" is just not on the radar of American lawmakers, journalists, and plain citizens. Oh, but of course - America is the only country in the world. And the overstressed American parents can finally sleep well at night, after this law passes, knowing that an American breast is the only breast there is -- and their offspring is protected from such horror by the ever-dutiful American government. Hilarious.

As you may or may not be aware, Sweden is not a state in the United States of America. Sweden is a country in northern Europe. Unless you figured it out by now, US law does not apply here. For your information, no Swedish law is being violated. Please be assured that any further contact with us, regardless of medium, will result in a) a suit being filed for harassment b) a formal complaint lodged with the bar of your legal counsel, for sending frivolous legal threats. It is the opinion of us and our lawyers that you are fucking morons, and that you should please go sodomize yourself with retractable batons. gouryella:
I find it funny how you write that America is so "international" and diverse, yet when someone mentions a lifestyle different from the Christian majority's (such as using porn), you immediately assume they should be dictated to. Do you not see the irony in your statements?
Perhaps a better statement might have been, "America is very international and diverse, as long as the core Puritan culture is observed."

| Originally posted by gouuryella In fact we are diverse, more diverse then other nations. Look at South American, 98 % of them are Catholics. Italy, Spain, Portugal all catholics. Many countries in the world are religious, most of Europe is. So I dont get your argument on religion and making it sound like a bad thing. |

| Originally posted by gouuryella Well there is nothing funny about that, I dont mind other lifestyles, lifestyles that make sense. I'm not like you, I dont believe in letting people do whatever they want, and things that can affect other peoples lives, such as in this case letting children watch porn. |
