dj'ing with ableton?

Right o, I've recently purchased ableton live, but I need help with a few aspect of dj'ing.

I've got all my tunes set up in the mixer, set my start points and loops. But what I really need to know is:

1. How do I hear the tune I want to mix in through my headphoens(this may be a stupid question but I'm stupid)

2. How to I trigger the tune at exactly the point I want, right now I'm hitting the little play button and sometimes the new tunes don't start playing till about 2 to 4 beats after I want them to.

3. Is there any secret to beatmatching? When using it to mix more complex tunes it would appear I can't beatmatch tunes in live. How is it done?

As I say I'm not to bright when it comes to this sort of stuff, so small words and pictures if you have any.

Next to the faders there is an S button press it

As for beatmatchin u have to set your warp markers at the start of the first beat

1. don't know, only used ableton for production.

2. change the global quantization. the default value is one bar, which is why there is a one bar pause.

3. as said above, use warp markers.

What setup do you have?
Two soundcards? One soundcard with two outputs?
Do you have an external mixer?

For my question...
What is a good way to pitch bend?
I want to match up songs in ableton with vinyl.
Ofcourse i can just raise/lower the pitch and put it back but that kinda sucks doing it that way.

1. depends how your soundcard is connected to your mixer/headphones/stereo

2. this depends on the global quantization (or clip quantization) for example if you have it set as 1 bar, you have the whole of the 1 bar before where you want the track to come in to click the play button

3. you need to learn how to set warp markers, your tunes arent properly warped

The method i use is first press the tap button to get rough bpm. Then use the up/down keys on the keyboard with the bpm selected, holding shift while doing this changes the bpm in .1 increments.

1. You'd need a good soundcard oran interface
2. Set the qua... at none (it's usually set as Global)
3. Warp the track manualy

Just read the manual
