Gabriel & Dresden

Just wondering what your opinions were? I've read on here before that they are great producers but as DJ's they are pretty poor. Personally Ive not seen them DJ. But on the production side Im a big fan of their mixes of Mindcircus, Southern Sun, Till There Was You, Fallen, and No One on Earth. Most recently Without You Near and Arcadia are both superb tunes. Also Motorcycle tunes are top notch.

their remix of nalin & kane - beachball isn't bad, along with their best work - their remix of tiesto - in my memory. Everything else is pretty sub-standard as far as im concerned

They did some alright stuff a few years ago, like their bootleg of Coldplay - Clocks, and possibly their On a High remix, but that about it. Rest is pants.

Posted by Redd on Jan-28-2006 12:43:

Their remix of Pavement Cracks is great, better than the Scumfrogs imo. Remixes of Intuition, On A High, Till There Was You and One For The Road are also ok. Can't say I like any of their standalone productions, but ATRC and the Photon Project Remix of Beautiful Things I enjoy.

i'n not huge fan tbh. I didn't really like tracking tresure down at all but other stuff they have done has been alright but they not my favourite dj/producers.

Posted by Absolut_Vodka on Jan-28-2006 14:00:

Well their 'on a high' remix is great imo... not into melodic stuff at all, but that one I can't stop listening to.

Couldn't agree more.

Their remix of 'Beachball' is a brilliant production, really captures the summery feel.

Pretty much everything else is shite though. I really mean that. I just detest the "natural" style of trance they provide us with, it should be considered a different genre altogether, in my view.

'Tracking Treasure Down' is plain awful, their remix of 'No-One On Earth' might just be the most overrated track in trance history, and 'Around You' (Motorcycle) might as well have been a pop-rock ballad. The 4/4 beat is only there so Armin can play on his show.

It makes me wonder how many people who listened to trance during the "good old days" actually like G&D. I mean, I'm really trying not to come across as an elitist. But their style of trance isn't just pushing the boundaries, but it's a complete reversal, a demolition of what trance actually is. It takes the piss.

well when they dj its not like seeing most other djs, since they use apletr0n there is no issue of trainwrecks, but what they seem to do is just play tracks. Not a real flow to their sets, but a series of cool and less cool songs.

Their Essential Mix is amazing.

well i've seen them dj 3 times and the last time was really good. check out their collaboration with the bassbin twinz

big top - sub

Well, Ive seen em play once here in Dallas and they used abelton. Josh was on the pc and Dave Dresden was on the decks. They were a lot of fun, energetic and got wasted along w/ everyone. They played mostly their own tunes but I think that is fine cus their are do many everyone wants to hear.
A couple people slipped napkins w/ requested tracks and Dave played em. They hung out w/ everyone and were for the most part nice guys, especially to the ladies of course.

their remix of capital rocka is still a rocking one. they still haven't done anything that tops that tbh.

You mean, Dave was on the mixer with MIDI controls.

I quite like, as previously mentioned, their work with Beachball, IMM and On a High. I'm guilty, and I hate to admit it, of liking ZoCalo just a bit. The rest, however, isn't too terribly interesting.

I will also give them a bit of credit for No One on Earth; The bassline is incredible when you're standing in front of a huge speaker stack.

Their new album is coming out soon. I'm betting it will be one of the best of 2006.

Nobody tops The Scumfrog ........!!!!

Posted by FiK on Jan-29-2006 09:53:

as producers they are just about my fav ones out there, motorcycle tracks have blown me away, same as Arcadia, tracking treasure down and there many, many quality remixes.

i saw them play at godskitchen in October in melbourne and IMO they were awesome, great flow to the set, brilliant track selection and there was nothing wrong with the mixing either.

If you have the chance to see them live then i would jump at it

Posted by starstarman on Jan-29-2006 12:48:

I suppose G&D has been granted enough recognition. And do we really need to open another thread and comment them again, again and again?

ok
They have done some not-so-bad tracks and they are years ago, serendipity, lament, remixes of hello, carrera 2, intuition. But all these cannot compensate for what they've done that hurt my ears and placed a curse to the scene since 02.
IMHO

Posted by AngusG on Jan-29-2006 15:44:

Really love Gabriel and Dresden... when they were out here last year they blew it away!! their remix of Swing 2 Harmony was my favourite track of 2005, and tracks like Zocollo, Arcadia and Portobello and a lot of their other work was up there as well...

didn't like Tracking Treasure Down though... horribly boring tune...

Posted by Sami.H on Jan-29-2006 17:45:

Beachball for the win

Posted by jamiepollock643 on Jan-29-2006 21:00:

Their Essential mix was class....loved that mix back then. And they have done some good stuff around that time but everything since then excluding a few has gone badly down hill
