Armin Van Buuren @ Spirit REVIEW Thread!
OOOOOOOOH yea who's the last one to leave the club and the first one back here mwuahahah. Holy shit Armin blew the roof off of Spirit tonight. What a sick party! I've got tons of awesome pics (BiG MiKE hooked up the on stage pics!) and a few videos. Armin closed the party with Communication per my request! That's TWICE I got the last song!!! And rofl, me and the dude next to me started the "One More Song!" chant! Does anyone know the name of the encore track he played after Communication? It was sick! Okay I've gotta sort my pics and stuff, and probably goto bed, I'll post the pics later on.
i had mad fun tonite
damns we closed out Armin...Gabe was too messed up to drive, so I ended up taking his car and following Drew home...which was really fun, I haven't driven a car in like 2 yrs ahah.
Anyway what an incredible night, crowd sucked and we were squashed like sardines!!!! (didnt care for those madd guidos or fobs...as soon as we saw them outside we were like ehhhh) but u TAs made it worthwhile and enjoyable. Great seeing the regulars
nice meeting bogartgreens.
Busted out some new dance moves haha. hopefully it looked ok. was trying to match Pyro as well.
anyway ok so we will all crash now for a few...then wake for lunch. Gabe's gona experience a chinese New Year meal with the family
then blitz and friends in the evening..
Happy Chinese New Year
just got home after my 2 hour drive. AWESOME night! I will give more details later, definitely need some sleep right now! great time hanging with the TA's and glad the CT TA's got to meet up for this one! GREAT NIGHT!!!...more later!
Overall a good night, great seeing / meeting a bunch of you: Trance Addix, Ellipse, YankeeBaby, InterMilan, Ali, Neil. Armin's selection was great and kept the crowd up for it all night long. My only real complaint was that Spirit was way too crowded! I've been there a bunch of times now and this ranks way up there in how many people I've seen there. I was right in front of the DJ booth for the first 1 1/2 hrs of Armin's set, dancing my ass off (when I wasn't potentially being trampled), and then from it being so hot in there, I had to go off to the side for about an hour or so. I made my way back towards the middle of the dancefloor later though and stayed til about 6.
Personally, I think between this and his draw last time at Crobar, that Armin has 'graduated' Spirit and that his future gigs should be in the bigger venues like Crobar or Roxy. I thought his set would have been amazing in Crobar with a bigger space to move around and lasers. Oh well, guess there's always next time.

b4 the short review of mine, just like to say nice seeing some u guys, Joey, Thero (didnt catch ur real name, sorry), Mike, Chris Luzz, Gabriel, and Yan, i saw u up there on the pillar but it was impossible to even get there although i was like 10 feet away half the night! ill have a few pics my friends girlfriend took up soon... too many people, i mean, theres always a huge crowd for Armin but that was just redonkulous, i couuldnt move or breathe, we stayed up in front during Remy's set just to wait for Armin to come out (speaking of, did anyone see the bouncer totally pwn the people in front trying to give Armin the "shivers" vinyl to be signed (which i dont know why he just wouldn sign, it was wierd), and then they took a picture right near the booth, the bouncer slapped her camera down, took the vinyl and chucked it back like a roid-raged former football quarterback in high school thats just now understanding why he should have gotten a college education (only thing hell be good at in life is being a prick bouncer). like i said to Thero, Remy is absolutely the best opener, him and Serge are the world's best opening DJs, they set the mood right, and especially Remy, plays some really interesting stuff that gets u dancing just right... well, if i think of nething more to add, ill add it, thats my review....
oooo and i lost my coatcheck ticket and they said they couldnt check for my coat until close, but i couldnt close, i hadda wake up early today, has this happen to anyone before, and if so, did you find it in good condition when you claimed it in lost and found (was it hard for u to claim in lost and found?).... im freakin out, i love that jacket
awesome that you guys had a great time..... any fights broke out ?
so alot of fobs and guidos eh ?were you guys able to have space to dance ? or no ?
Oh man i had a blast...Met some cool TA's on the dancefloor.Too tired to post anything right now. I need like 3 days of sleep.

Me and my friends got kicked out =(. But i did catch the beginning of Armin. What was the second song he played? I've heard it before, and i think Remy played it too. Well it was good at least seeing him haha.

Remy was good but he just wasn't doing it for me. Armin was amazing -- wish I could have stayed longer but I'd already been up for 24 hours so it was probably a good thing that I left

I had a great time regardless aside from all the pushing and shoving because it was so packed in there. even crobar back in sept. was crowded but nothing like that. |
Wow i just got back to rochester and i have to say i cant remember the last time ive been this knackered....Armin definately played a fantastic set last night... one of the best ive heard from him ... so many tracks i didnt recognize and need to get a hold of ... one thing that was missing though was that he wasnt as animated and into the crowd as he usually is in toronto... i noticed a lot of people giving him their cell phone with requests or messages which im not sure is a good thing to do since djs like taking the odd request once in a while but not all the time... the place was rammed till 4 after which it cleared up a lot and i back the suggestion that armin play at a bigger venue next time ... i was surprised as to how small the dance floor at spirit was and the many guys grinding their girlfriends around the floor like some ragged doll didnt exactly help the sitation
highlight of the night was the black guy on the podium with the WWF championship belt.. at the end of the night when armin came of stage breifly he went up to him with the belt and said you are the CHAMPION
tracks i recognized
perasma - swing 2 harmony
interstate - remember me (terry bones mix)
Armin - communication
Armin - seven cities
Armin - who is watching
Armin - shamu (??? mix)
u2 - Streets have no name (Nu nrg mix)
Eric Pryda - Aftermath
Coldplay - talk (junkie xl mix)
G&D - Tracking Treasure down
Marco v - false light
Alex stealthy - Able to forget
Luminary - Amsterdam (Smith and pledger mix)
Marcel Woods - Advanced
Ferry Corsten - Whatever (Marcel woods mix)

rob dawg im pretty sure it was you who told me to get my Armada t-shirt signed and then we were talking about Communication....communication part fucking 4..absolutely amazing..so many songs played, i dont feel like writing them all..another great night with armin...will armin ever let any of us down?
Remember the first sing along of the night
by the way...anyone know what the name of the last song he played? not seven cities. there was one with a female vocal. it was within the 3-5 last tracks he played. maybe 3rd to last?

ok here's a lil more of a review from me!
Met up with Ben (Intermilan) and Neil (Bad Bad Neil) at the stamford train station. We checked the info. booth at grand central for the CT TA's but we couldn't find anyone! lol!
we got to spirit checked out remy from upstairs for a bit then headed down to get up front for armin. ran into doombot and his girlfriend (hope the show was a great b'day present!
)
and then as I always seem to run into colehawk and friend! met Big Mike and BigMike, Sebring Vandit, got to hang out with elipse for a bit. Def. great to see/meet you all!
Neil and Ben will prob. have a different story, hahaha, we were debating this on the way home today.... haha! I def. had my share of drinks and was def. feeling super lit! I was lovin' it! I was just having a great time, somehow I climbed on the dj booth to get someone's record signed and just take pics., but then the bouncer freaked out. ah well.
other than that I was totally loving armin's set! it was awesome! remy, well, he was ok.
we hung out front for a while but kept getting squished by all the people so we chilled upstairs for a bit before coming back downstairs again.
I def. would prefer to see him at crobar again over spirit. I didn't think spirit was a bad venue like I had heard from some, it was pretty decent. just overcrowded.
Neil, Ben, hope you guys got home the rest of the way safely! It was great hanging out with you! Ben, thanks for waking me up on the train and for driving us back to glenbrook!
you guys are a lot of fun to hang with!....although I know you think I am crazy for climbing the dj booth and not waiting to get on Big Mike's shoulders instead! lol! it was all in good fun!!
LEGEND...ah-hem, where were you! we were all supposed to hang out!!! could not find you at all!
Sucks we didn't get to hang out!
here's some pics. from last night!

Great pics
pretty sweet night disregarding how packed it was..i dont think i ever seen spirit soo packed like it was last night...armin played some good stuff, purple haze - eden and nic chagall - monday bar were my personal favs of the night and remy rockedd it out with a proper opening set!, derek howell - yah yah (dj remy mix) and finor - dilemma (dj remy mix) ownedddd..was it me or the lights at the end were crazzzy.i was buggin out haha, specially when armin was slowing the tracks down im like ahh wtf is going on hahaha..good times for sure
...great seeing: gabe, alyss, drew, joey, tom, john, dj eco, hai lee, aj, robdawg, bigmike, some dood i saw in bathroom who thought i was doombot lmao, yankeebaby, (bunch more. cant really think atm, bit cracked out)..damn ali i didnt see u!..where were u hiding?
