tch Lead Fatness?

hey do you guys pan your lead sounds? or do u just use the 1 patch i know alot is down to layering to get fatness but i just wondered.

basiclly ur Lead will get fatter if will use Detune\Unison...also combining 3 OSCs or More on different Transitions and Same waveform recommended (i.e Supersaw - 3 or More Different Saw Waveforms with\without Chorus or Transition change) if that isnt fat enough for you then try stereo enhancer to create a width..imo i wouldnt recommend about it since it might be too FAT and other elements in the song will sound faded...

well i have a jp8080 and i wasnt sure about recording patches, at the mo i was recording it in mono like just normal and it didnt sound right compared to other tracks but sum1 said pan 1 side right and clone it and pan the other side left is this right?

no, that's wrong.. it will still sound like a recording panned to the center.. you need a difference in the single channels to get stereo. i would record the JP in stereo mode and add effects (reverb, ping pong delay, ...) that will do thge fat leads.

the panning tricks works only with a source which isn't as accurate in pitch and timing as a synth (e.g. a singer, guitar, ...)

ah...that explains it all..even if u removed all the FXs such as Reverb and Delay and has a Unison\Detune turned on then its concidered to be a Stereo Effect...so u should record it on Stereo. i would recommend Mono Recording for Dry Sub Basslines.

also if u ever guys wondered how the vocal on Pop songs sounds so wide well thats beacuse the singer recorded the phrase 2 times that matches to the beat of course and then they'r both behing panned hard to Left and Right since it might be the same phrase recordings but the Waveforms are different so it sounds wide...just like when u combining Square and Triangle and panning them to different sides...

so i won't need to clone it just record the one patch then?

I layer my synths and pan them to give them more "stereo fatness".
Also different delays/reverbs on the left and right channel give good results.

Here's a solo synth example from one of my tracks.
It has two stacks of synths (a total of 8, lol), one panned slightly to the left and one to the right.

Pop songs are usually recorded dead center mono to make them stand out from all the rest of the track.

What you're suggesting is just a doubler (which can be done with the same recording and some phase), and a slight offset on one stereo channel perhaps.

bass is missing always when i add stereo expander..
so i add copy to only center..

then i got rock bottom and wide stereo� same time

is this right?
