Converting my basement into a studio/dancefloor...

Like the title says i'm turning my basement into a studio/dancefloor. I've been using it for storage but i noticed recently that with the 8" concrete slab floor even a mediocre sound system sounds fantasic. So, i'm going to clean the place out and start moving all my audio equiptment down there.
I want to paint the slab(floor) which is about 14X22 and find some decent lighting to give it a nice feel. Problem is i don't have a clue what type of lighting to get or what color to paint the floor. Any suggestions? By the way i'll be using standard light sockets for the main lighting and an American DJ Vertigo(along with a couple lasers) when the music is cranked.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Yeah that's all fine and great until someone smashes into my hot water heater at high speed.

Red is what i had in mind for the floor actually.

Personally I'd convert it in to a gym, but your idea sounds pretty damn cool as well. With the floors I'd maybe have some sort of mural painted on by a friend at first. Then as time progresses see how you feel about it...

If it`s concrete get one of those buffer machines in and make it all shiny.

you cant buff concrete, you could wax it if you really want to but it will look like shit

what you want to do is give it a quick wash with a 50 50 mix of muriatic acid and water to etch the surface, then get a high quality concrete paint and paint it. if you dont etch, the paint will chip and peal too easily

dont bother trying to buff it.... its futile

I found one link that said this...

quote:
Concrete is fast becoming the ultimate no-wax flooring material. Thanks to recent advantages in polishing equipment and techniques, We can now grind concrete floor surfaces, whether new, or old, to a high gloss finish that never needs waxing or coatings. Factor in the super durability and performance of concrete, it is no wonder why retail, warehouse and office facilities are opting for polished concrete floors over marble, granite, tile or linoleum. Homeowners are also catching on to these smooth, high luster floors, which can be stained to replicate the look of polished stone.

...however i don't know what kind of equiptment this would require.
I do just happen to have a half-gallon of muriatic acid although i'd have to do some reading before i dared use it. If it eats through concrete i imagine it's probably somewhat dangerous.

You'll definitely need a slippery dip.

yeah i have some muriatic acid lying around too

Look, if i've said it once i've said it a million times....

Scratch all those faulty plans. In order to build and maintain this dancefloor, you'll need to hire a series of two hundred stout dwarves, each with a name more outrageous than the last. Unfortunately, I do not think there are enough Lucky Charms in the world to pay off that many Dwarves. You may have to resort to Apple Jacks. Sure, they don't taste like apple, but dwarves eat what they like.
