Devoloping an ear for sounds.....

The thing about dance music is that it has a fresh sound to it. The leads, pads, etc. are almost never the same. Sometimes you listen to a song, and you wonder "Wow, this producer is very creative. Never in a million years would I have thought of a way to do that with what I thought of was a useless sound."

So how do you develop an ear for that? My guess is by listening and producing all the time. I'm probobly right.

Some formes of trance are not really that creative. Especially the supersaw-trance. Some kinds of psy-trance are very creative with soundmaking. Listen to some songs from the Converting Vegetarians album with Infected Mushroom..

Dj sammy = Not creative

Infected Mushroom = There is as much creativity in the big toes of erez and duvdev as tiestos whole body. Thats only their toes...

Creativity of form is overrated. Great tracks can me made in hackneyed styles. Remember that experimental music if quite often hard to listen to ... after all, most American composition professors would tell you that melody itself is unoriginal.

Old school trance was amazing when it hit the scene, most still is.
Then came Prodigy = Amazingly creativity !!

When I first heard Drum'n'Bass I was F@@King amazed, really powerful pyschotic beat, no love to be found in that style of music though....just pure rythm for the lower part of the body

Trance music can be more emotional and eurphoric which is what I like at about the uplifting songs.

Anyway, who is to say what is creative and what is not ? the maker is the creator and the creator is creative
