[Melodic Trance] William Vance - Midnight Heights [128kbps]

I'm not sure how you guys will feel about this one. It needs alot of work, i've been told it needs a stronger melody, stronger bassline, better progression, and to cut the highs because it makes ears bleed(not really). I was wondering if you guys could backup those comments, and possibly help me on the way to finalizing this song.

Ok the first thing I noticed is the gap between the highs and lows. I usually don't mind songs which hit the highs but you are missing a lot of mids, causing the song to seem a bit empty. Maybe throw in a pad or something or thicken the main lead. Give the bassline a bit more drive. Then it'll energize things a bit.

The song has potential but try adding some little sounds and stuff. Beef it up! :-)

ok doode, listening....

the intro seems ok, like the tribal elements in the percussion.
nice fx around 0:30
bass is kinda thin and dry
pluck is nice
around 2:00 nice break, like the strings, looks like a nice lead is gonna come in.
it sounds preaty good all together though it doesen't have that much drive, definetly needs more low end, lead is kinda thin too, maybe add more mid range fq.
melodic wise is good though nothing special.
ok outro.

average track overall, not bad but could be better.

keep it up.

Yes to all the above, I'm afraid. The main melody sounds somewhat random and doesn't hold much weight especially combined with the very much tried and tested chord progression. Then there's the mastering, which unfortunately is very broken. The bassline sounds thin, the high-end frequencies are piercing to the point of being painful and there's barely any mid-range to fill the void.

Even if you can address these major issues, I'm not convinced that this track will be able to hold it own without the addition of more layers and a stronger main melody. I don't mean to sound harsh, but there'd be no point in telling you it sounds terrific when you already admit that it needs a lot of work. Keep at it!

Yeah this has way too much Hi-EQ. Back it off to flat, try adding a narrow hi boost at 12-13 khz. Dont go to wide with the Q setting, and if you find you need to boost more than 6db, go back and rework the track / mixing.

I think backing off on hi's as suggested should bring out more of the rest of the track.

Other things, its a nice track but maybe the bassline needs some work? Possibly a more chunky sound and / or layered with another sound.
