static questions

hey, i have noticed some static in my headphones recently... i was wondering what could cause this? I have my tt's hooked upto a crapy stereo for the time being and there is some static there too. when i had my tt's hooked upto a system in the bar (a good system), you couldnt hear the static at all. i just started noticing it and dont remember ever hearing it before. i dont know anything about electronics and was just wondering what causes this static... overload, watage differences, or what...

note ~ this only happens when i turn the volume up and there is no record spinning... when the record is playin and i have the volume up, i dont notice it (as much).

equipment:
2 numark tt5oo's
numark dxm06 mixer
sure m44g cartridges
sony mdrv700 headphones
crapy stereo

thanks,
brad

usually the simplest explanation is the best... you probably don't hear static on the good system because it is a good system!

since the static is most noticeable when you turn up the volume without anything playing, i'm betting that it's because your stereo doesn't have a good signal to noise ratio. there is always some inherent noise in electrical systems, and with better systems using higher quality components, there is less noise. if you check the specs for audio equipment you'll usually see something like SNR: 105dB. that's the ratio between the strength of the audio signal and the strength of the background static. the higher the number, the better. crappy equipment might even get worse over time...the behringer mixer i run my speakers off of is definitely getting worse, no surprise!

Is everything grounded properly?

its your numark mixer my friend.

try recording that on your PC and play it in your car stereo. you will hear that static noise anywhere you play not just on your cheap speakers
