what kind of trance is.....

FSOL,Crystal Method,Prodigy,Fluke, Chemical bro???is it tekno?

Posted by Fir3start3r on Jan-17-2002 06:32:

Dunno

For the most part I would say "Big Beat" or "Break Beat".
I don't know if I'd have FSOL on the same list though...

a friend of mine told me a long while back that it was Industrial Techno...well i all can say is this groups are all classicsss....

Posted by Vivid Boy on Jan-17-2002 06:43:

its a type of industrial...im not sure.....im starting to like industrial...its not that bad of a genre

Posted by Fir3start3r on Jan-17-2002 07:18:

I say NIN and Front242 are more industrial...

Posted by vasyachkin on Jan-17-2002 07:26:

Industrial: Kmfdm, Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly ...

Industrial Trance (psychedelic): Dark Soho, Tim Schuldt

i don't find anything industrial in Crystal Method or Prodigy or Chemical Brothers, just my opinion

Prodigy (new stuff): Breakbeats, industrial (a little), big beat and some hip hop.
Chem bros: Breakbeats, Big Beats (old), pure shite (the new stuff)
Crystal Method: like a mix of new Prodigy and old Chem Bros. Breakbeats and Funky Breaks.
Fluke: Breakbeats, techno.

I know my breakz.

Posted by dj_mdma on Jan-17-2002 14:43:

Hmm, Prodigy would overall be calssed as some sort of techno, I woudl say that they are part of the breaks genre too.
Chems are some sor tof breaks.
Hybrid are nu-skool breaks. That I'm defiantely sure of!

i disagree with all of you....

I consider Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, Prodigy, Underworld, Fluke, etc.... its all the same genre to me. I call it.....
electronica!

I was into this stuff before trance, and all compilations, both from europe and america that i have (back when i used to buy CD's), have "electronica" written all over them.... these CD's are also found in the "electronica" section of music websites - not trance or breaks.

MTV used to have a show on late-night on the weekends called "AMP"... it was self-hailed as "...a celebration of electronica..." .... they had an AMP CD (2 of them actually)... the first one was better...
want to hear the tracklist?
here you go:

Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin' Beats
Fluke - Atom Bomb
Underworld - Pearl's Girl
Future Sound of London - We Have Explosive
Photek - Ni Ten Ichi Ryu
Aphex Twin - Girl/Boy Song
Orbital - The Box
Goldie - Inner City Life
Prodigy - VooDoo People (chemical bros. mix)
Wink - Are You There?
Crystal Method - Busy Child
Atari Teenage Riot - Sick to Death

This CD also won all sorts of awards, "best of genre", went platinum in sales... i have it too.... great CD.

You silly man!

ELECTRONICA IS NOT A GENRE!

It's just something that Americans thought up one day...

Grrrrrr!

2. ATOM BOMB - FLUKE
3. LOOPS OF FURY - THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS
4. TIN THERE - UNDERWORLD
5. THE THIRD SEQUENCE - PHOTEK
6. LEAVE HOME (UNDERWORLD MIX) - THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS
7. WE HAVE EXPLOSIVE (HERD KILLING) - THE FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON
8. FIRESTARTER (INSTRUMENTAL) - PRODIGY
9. U SIX - FLUKE
10. MUSIQUE - DAFT PUNK
11. 2097 - SOURCE DIRECT
12. TITAN - PHOTEK
13. PETROL - ORBITAL
14. AFRO RIDE - LEFTFIELD

This CD still rocks

Yeah, whatever... but electronica ain't a genre

electronica = whatever music that has electronic instruments in it.

Dontcha think that's a bit "wide" to be classed as a genre?

Nice and relaxed,
Nik
