Big Ears The Orb at Disney Concert Hall 3/18

The Orb at Disney Hall:

quote:
UKs electronic music heroes The Orb will be your tour guide on this progressive space and sound journey through the Hall which kicks off the Phils Minimalist Jukebox, a 3-week festival directed by composer John Adams.

On Saturday, March 18, just before midnight, Walt Disney Concert Hall will become the setting for this progressive, ambient musical movement to come to life. Dr. Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann are The Orb and since their seminal Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld in 1991 to last years Okie Dokie Its The Orb on Kompakt, the Orb have continued to create electronic music from spacious and minimal celestial-techno to spiraling and hypnotic dance floor anthems.

This extraordinary event - which runs from 11:59pm on Saturday, March 18 to 6am on Sunday, March 19 - culminates with the Orbs live performance in the main auditorium, while special guest artists (to be announced) will be featured in surrounding spaces and times of the Hall, and will showcase their respective visual and aural minimalist artistic philosophies.

Check back soon for ticket prices and to purchase tickets.

"Walt Disney Concert Hall is anticipated to be among the most acoustically superb spaces in the world for the performance and enjoyment of music, and will be perfectly suited for in-house recordings and film scoring. "

= GOOD SOUND

I saw The Orb in NY at Roseland in the mid-90s. It was a good show but I didn't have the right connections at the time to make it properly trippy.

It would be a great show to shoom to.

Good question. I got the info from the Disney Hall site (link is in my original post). But you can try the KCRW presale. Password is DOKIE.

Ticketmaster shows ticket prices as $20-$50.

In a perfect world, they'd be handing out blotter as you walked in the door.

Yay! We got our tickets on Monday (they're on sale now...)

We're doing balcony seats...so we can do what we want up there

Posted by HotDogWater on Feb-09-2006 03:03:

anyone been to the concert hall before?

Posted by djFEI-FEI on Feb-09-2006 04:39:

Yeah--question: Is there going to be a dancefloor or is it a sit down event? Haven't been there myself yet except the outside.

Posted by dollaroff on Feb-09-2006 17:17:

We're going to be dancing in the seats!

I'm assuming that:

1. There will be seats (they won't be taken out)
2. The "security" will prevent you from going from tier to tier
3. They'll be people there that will have no idea why they're there
4. The rest of us will have a grand old time

As for sitting/not-sitting, I dunno.
