Strength of US Men's Football/Soccer??
I will use the word football but for Americans I mean soccer. US beat a weak Norway team the other day 5-0 in a friendly with some of the better US players playing for European clubs.
I have not been keeping up with football lately but for World Cup, is England the current favorite or is Brazil the default favorite? Whoever it is I can't wait for it to start. I was in Germany over the winter and saw slight signs around the country of the World Cup preparations and was sad I will not be there for the tournament.
I honestly think the World Cup blows the crappy Super Bowl out of the water. I realize being an American I am a minority in this regards but when talking world champions, Superbowl is still an American affair though other countries may watch, but World Cup is the most awesome sporting spectacle, or a close second to the Summer Olympics (Winter Olympics are weak haha).

Im glad you think the US team is good which they are but they wont beat Italy or the Czechs but whoknows they can look to Greece for some determination. I hate the US "soccer" team and always will. Sorry but fuck them

i don't know why we haven't learned from past WCs, none of the favorites make it past quarterfinals and Brazil always wins. end of conversation.
US might scrape through to the 2nd round. People give Italy and Czechs too much credit - football is very well rounded these days, Italy is a good bet to fuck something up with their squad collection and the Czechs are getting old themselves.
Zimbabwe is better than USA

although they always fail miserably, you can never overlook the dutch
I'm hoping for an england victory, 40 years on, and in Germany
it would be sweet as fuck
I'm pretty sure Italy wants revenge since they got knocked out by Sweden and Denmark in the Euro 2004. They underachieved against teams like Sweden and Denmark, but you can't win a match if you don't score on all chances you've got. Also, Italy has got some players in topform atm and I think even though Totti played like shit and no matter how much I hate him at Roma, I'm sure he will play really good if he's fit..

| Originally posted by flavdave Well looks like I'm allowed to speak on this issue then. The US has a great team and we are capable of winning big games (beating Portugal and Mexico in the WC2002, winning the Gold Cup in 2005). I also know the Italians are perennial underachievers and they're certainly not a lock for the second round like most people have been saying. |
shut up
Who did they meet in the final of Gold Cup?!
El Salvador or Mexico?

People, Ghana exists too and is fairly above Angola, Togo and Trinidad's level. It'd be a surprise if they went through, but don't write them off completely.
I want the Czechs to go far but i can't picture them keeping the Euro's level for a long time..
As for US, i'm thinking they don't have much chances at all to reach say a semi-final but could go through in the group.
I see the Italy playing virgin tight defense and pretty much boring the fawk out of me like they normally do and losing to my beloved countrymen 0-1. Perhaps a tie. The Czech's though will beat USA. I see a very close nailbiter against Ghana but in the end, a U.S. victory.
This will give the U.S. the 2nd seed. Which would set them up against Brazil. Brazil will stomp the shiate out of them. Still.. I'd be happy to make it past the very tough group.
I think the U.S. is strong but not ever vying for any real trophies in the next 20 years. Maybe pushing the top 8 again. They have obviously improved over the last 12 years but I'm not too sure how far they can take it with a lot of disinterest in this country.
But I got your back Eddie, another U.S. supporter here!
