Idea U.S People...Black History Month

well i may get flammed....im not a racist for one but I find this black history month a bit ridiculous now. I understand they have been opressed(i think thats the word I was looking for) for many years but how can we come together and stop racisim when a set race gets their own month to celebrate their "blackness' why cant white people get their white history month and the hispanics get hispanic history month...I say that should happen every race should get their own history month. I find it more racist that one race gets a month and the rest dont get shit......eh whatever thats my vent of the day

I have to agree here,I think it is time to move on and stop feeling sorry about what happend.I have the same problem with BET(the channe)I think it is a ridiculous idea pointless and all it does is that it tries to show is that black people are different from everyone else which is not true at all.

what would happen if we get a channel called the white channel?I know hell would brake loose.

bottom line:lets move on people and stop separating ourselves from eachother.

For once, I would agree with you.

I seriously dont have a problem with blacks having thier own month..I mean, seriously its just like any month, but it says Black history month. Whenever the teacher starts telling us about it, I just shut my ears and day dream . I also see your point, but I think blacks have it, because they suffered the most in this nation. I mean why would whites have thier own month? We got the other 11 .

You cant just really say and do that. It will take years for blacks and whites to actually think the same, many years. Especially looking at how blacks act nowdays and with this seperation that you just mentioned. I dont have a problem with BET, its a private owned station, and its a free country that we live in.

The reality is, that young black people today don't give a shit about black history.

Thats why bill cosby has to smack them around

I feel the same way about Kwanza.

And as scary as that may sound black kids don't know or give two shits about black history.

I remmember in 6th grade during black history month our teacher mentioned that the following day we'll be learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and this one black kid is like "oh, that's muh nigga"

They suffered the second most.

The Native Americans suffered worse.

That's because they've been conditioned into thinking that way.

Posted by Dervish on Feb-01-2006 23:04:

It's a tough one. I personally think that race is a percived thing, but as it does exist as a perception it has to be delt with in a pragmatic way. However as you've said if a special black history month is the best way to that is another matter.

Why are you even replying with something so damn obvious?

Whats up with you and resources man lol?

Well, yeah they did, but there arent many of them left so I guess, and plus they do not play a bigger role then African Americans do.

And neither of them pay taxes . At least Native Americans do something for the economy with their casinos. More then I can say for the "The Man is keeping us down" group. And no I'm not racist

Black history month might actually mean something if race had some objective basis. As it is, it's merely another symptom of a greater social problem.

you have any proof of that. We know the law says indians dont pay, but as far as the brotha their not excluded, well at least the working ones. If they are excluded let me know so I can tell my friends who are black so they wont get taxed from their check.

And how many of them work ? Welfare doesn't count, pal.

Im glad that so many ppl agreed with me....back in High School this came up and me and my friend were pretty much known as the leaders of the KKK in our school just because we had an oppinion and wanted to make things clear. And yes no one cares but they still note it on the calander politicians acknowledge it and so does the media so someone obviouslly does and yes black ppl dont know their history or respect it for that matter

x2, the amount of steretyping in this thread is rather ridiculous. To say that all blacks don't know or give two shits about black history month is rather absurd. Once again you are relying on your OWN personal experience and not the greater picture. Many blacks still feel the need to celebrate Black History Month as a way to celebrate the survival of thier roots and traditions throughout the course of slavery & the civil rights movement. I dont have any objection to Black History Month and I even though I am white I still support it to its fullest. Its a month to remember how freedom pertains to ALL people. The main problem with the opinions in this thread is that everyone is looking at BLACK history month. This is celebration of much more than skin color.

I never understood the hypocracy of black history month.

They fought so much for their rights and what do they go do?
Segregate themselves with their own month.

In the summer-time there were two black guys down the street who were handing out, "Black History Month" paper booklets for like....FOUR months at least...
What? Is EVERY month black history month??

I understand, sorry, empathize with their intentions but I feel they're going about it the wrong way and counter-productive...

...meh..../rant

Maybe if you took the time to study the history behind things (instead of constantly engaging in slack jawed jabber) you might get a better idea of what it's all about.

I mean, the way I feel is why shouldn't we be taught black history throughout the entire year? They've definitely played a huge role in our world since the dawn of time - but their history has been very much ignored.

I think you missed the part where I said I did empathize...
That doesn't mean I don't have grasp of their place in history though...

I didn't miss anything. It just doesn't really sound like you empathize.
