mp3 players. suggestions

so i just returned my creative zen micro for the 3rd time this month and got fed up with it and took my money back. (for all those that own one get rid of it asap) anyways. what do u people recomend as a good mp3 player? so far best and highest quality i've seen out there is the sony 2 gig flash drive. ipods seem to be a serioius rip off. and all the hard drive players are crashing.

hmmm. what should i go with?

Just wondering why you returned it? I suggested it to a friend, and he could not be happier.

I always suggest Creative products because of the sound quality.

i love my mini disc player but the only problem with them is moving parts so it can be easy to break and lots of mini discs but i've had no complaints.

Too bad they discontinued the iPod Mini... I bought a few weeks before the Nano came out and although I felt like I missed out - I'm glad i got the mini. It's sturdy and haven't had any problems with it. Battery life is good. The student discount online helps with the price.

Ebay is a good place to look. Bought my first MP3/Flash drive 512 mb and worked great until I need more space and thus, opted for the Mini.

Good luck... seems this kind of stuff is trial and error and personal preference.

The new revisions of the iPod Nano are great, no scratches and no random lockups.

They're not a ripoff. You get what you pay for.

Haven't tried it as I don't own a Nano (yet), but it's what I use with my iPod now.

iTunes sucks balls for absolutely everything.

my zen kept freezing up on me. batter life was garbage. i blew a head phone on my 2nd one. it wouldn't communicate properly with my comptuers. like it was a nice player. great features and all that when it worked properly. but i just got fed up with them.

i wish i got an ipod mini. there is one for sale at future shop but its pink grrrrrr. lol. and the nano just seems a bit of a rip off. i mean 249 for 2 gigs? thats the same price as my zen was and it was 6 gigs.

In regards to that, its solid state memory vs hard drive. The zen has a hardrive so thats why they can offer you more space.

Plus i think the 4gig nano is only $300, good deal in my opinion, and i hate iPods.

Go with the iPod.

I LOVE my mini! So much. JemPod never lets me down! He's awesome!

It's because they WORK. And fucking work well. I've had iPods since they were first released in early 2001. Nary a problem. They could be shaped like a gigantic hairy tit and I'd still use them.

one thing i'm wondering is whether the software rewrites the entire firmware on the iPOD or does it only work with computers that have the software installed ?

in addition, the site mentions firewire but is it also USB compatible as a drag and drop drive ? thanks for teh feedback

I'm not sure what you mean, you don't need any special formatting on the iPod firmware to use it with EphPod or anything. You could use any software to transfer to the iPod, but iTunes and EphPod do not play well together at all. If you use EphPod, don't even install iTunes, it rapes and plunders.

I haven't a clue if it'll work with USB/USB2.0 iPods, but I don't see why not. All of mine are FireWire.

i guess what i was getting at was, if u use EphPod to xfer files mp3, or whatever to the iPOD, can u then transfer those files off the iPOD onto a PC that doesn't have EphPod installed ?

Eh. I'm happy with my crappy 500mb Creative MP3 player. It's puny, but sound quality is decent and get a decent battery life out of it. (about 15hrs on 1 AAA)

I'm not sure, but I don't see why you couldn't. Even if you need EphPod, its a small enough program to be installed quickly and easily.

Enter the world of lithium ion batteries and also an entire world of people who don't know how to take care of them

ATTENTION: SOCIETY: DO NOT RUN THE CHARGE DOWN ON LI-ION BATTERIES ALL THE TIME, IT IS BAD. KEEP THEM CHARGED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE - THERE IS NO MEMORY EFFECT.

And now back to your regularly scheduled doldrums

^^so true

i have a gen1 mini, and i love it - battery life is still decent, and i've never had a single problem with it.

what pisses me off though, is my itrip mini - it works about 1/10th of the time i try it... it seems to be random when it decides to work, and the interface for choosing stations is awful.

For example: it works about 1/5th the time in toronto, same station, same cars, it worked fine in capetown south africa, although i was broadcasting on a different station than what the car was recieving, and i went to the states recently, and it didnt work AT ALL.

i hate the damn thing!

anybody else have this problem?

I love my Micro to death..
seriously... battery life for anything is going to nbe crap... i have come to a solution with the micro though... turn off the back light during the daylight hours and keep that bitch on touchpad lock when you don't need it on.. and turn on the smart volume option

PERFECT

For a small mp3 player, I suggest the Samsung YP-U1Z. It as a lithium-polymer battery and a 9 band custom EQ.
For a HDD based mp3 player, the Zen Micro/Photo would be my choice. (Swappable batteries)

Reason being: You're trying to use an FM transmitter in downtown Toronto. There are no free frequencies for your iTrip to broadcast on, so it's attempting to overpower an existing signal which it simply cannot do.

Hardwire it into your head unit, that's the only thing you can do.
