not many. and none are probably worth it.

the thing about a subwoofer is that if it is not tight, its not worth it.

a lot of subwoofers can push out decent base, but at that price point, they will all be boomy, not tight.

when people talk aboyt subs being tight, that means they are musical. boomy subs are better for home theater.

the reason subs get expensive is that they need to punch and recover quickly for music. this way they are ready for the next note. if they cant, they are worthless.

i have a lot of doubts that this sub would meet your needs.

you may want to build one yourself for a few dollars more.

If your going to build a sub yourself you need the knowhow.
You got get the box size and shape just right if you want the suspension to be tight.
CosmoKid's point about it being tight for music could not be more true.
Nothing pisses me off more when people think they have a sub in there car or dj setup that is "the bomb!" when all it does is vibrate like a motha f*ka n destroy the songs bassline.
I cant remember where it was but i remember reading a very in depth look of the the acoustics of a subwoofer box/setup.
So search for that and instead of buying some box and putting the sub in that you could make ur own!
I was thinking of doing it but i have been too lazy to do so.

this sub is really fucking loud and boomy i agree with cosmo, would be sick sick sick for a home theatre or maybe a huuge studio room (20x40 at least) but not for the regular bedroom studio

behringer = shit. end of story.

Behringer gives your good bang for your buck.
True they are not the best but they are definitly good for there price.
People are so quick to hate behringer.
Ofcourse if you running i prosetup thats semi-permanent in a club you would use behringer but for someone doing houseparties why the hell not? Great value.
Except for the dj stuff, kinda scares me, like it will stop working all of a sudden.

no self-respecting man with skills uses trash like behringer, douchebag.

Posted by ZeJayMan on Feb-05-2006 07:05:

to Punjabi

Djing is about making people on the dancefloor enjoy the music and have a good time, it's better to be out playing records on belt drives letting people have a good time than to be sat in your bedroom chugging over direct drives, same goes with all dj equipment, low class, but people having fun is better than high class and being a loser

Posted by ZeJayMan on Feb-05-2006 07:08:

Of course if you've got the gear and the skills to match them, power to you you deserve it.

Their DJ gear and studio gear are nothing alike, don't base your responses on what you've heard about their shite mixers.

Application, and intended use.

Those are two important factors to consider when choosing a woofer.

Where will you be using the sub, and what are you going to try to play?

Agreed, a huge sub might not be perfect for a small'ish room however you can easily turn the gains down to reduce it's volume slightly (note the gain is not a volume meter)..

Anyway, about boomy bass, it just means the enclosure you're using is shite. And wrong for your sub. Most of the lads on here will like their EDM music which is predominantly faster and more punchy then our hip hop/rap/other slower deeper bass friends.

Depending on what sound you want to recreate you'll use a different box. Be it a slot port box, a ported box, or a sealed box.

For dance music a sealed box is usually preferred as this aids the sub in repositioning itself for the next note, however you'll lose a fair bit of low end as well as output with a sealed box. Yet you'll gain space as the box is only half the size (usually).

So to conclude, most subs that you'll buy off the shelf will often be ported boxes as the output is a lot higher for the amount of power they'll be getting.

I used to have a sealed box in my car and it sounded great with most of the trance i listened to, however i switched to a ported box there 4 months ago and the increase in output as well as the extended low end is impressive! Most EDM still sounds good but you can notice the bass lagging behind the odd time depending on the song you play.

All the above is very roughly thrown together (i'm tired).. but regarding the comment "If it's not tight, it's not worth it" that's only because you listen to EDM (again a grand assumption) If you were to listen to another genre of music you might just notice the sub perform better. Also, 8 time out of 10 it's just the box that's at fault and not the actual subwoofer.

um, its safe to assume that someone posting this in the DJ forums at TranceAddict is using it to mix trance, or maybe some proggy house.

with this safe assumption, my comments stand true.

and also, if you think the difference between tight base and a boomy base in 8 out of 10 subs is the cabinet, you should look into subs more.

ported v. exclosed will definately make an impact, but dont forget the materials of the cone, or the actual technology that goes into the woofer.

velodyne make a home sub that costs $1,500 that shares an enclosure with another they sell for $800. the difference is in the Servo technology. Servo allows the sub to react and respond faster.

why would i ever think that someone posting in this forum would be asking whats the best sub for hip-hop? I wouldnt.

Most "bought off the shelf" sub woofers (with included enclosure), are not aimed towards a trance/EDM enthusiast as most people aren't into our preferred genre. Instead they cater for the less informed public who, if it sounds loud it must be good attitude is usually the norm.

The power handling, Xmax and size of the cone are obviously quite different in most subs but most are pretty similar beyond this point.. unless you spend big bucks.

My comment about Hip Hop was meant to reflect the people making these subs, they don't really take into account every style of music as i'd guess a majority of their listeners don't like fast paced music. An assumption none the less though..

However, on a personal note, i've gone from a sealed enclosure, to a ported enclosure and am going to be switching to a spherical enclosure over the next few weeks. I've decided to go back to a sealed (yet slightly different as it's a sphere, hence no standing waves etc) because the music i listen to sounds better with this enclosure.

Even if the best components and most expensive sub woofer was used, the box in the end would determine how well the sub would perform, not the components used on the sub. Most ready bought boxes are ported. That's my arguement..

everything matters. the amp, sub, box, wiring everything matters. if you spend less in one catagory your sub will overall be worse.

Posted by richg101 on Feb-08-2006 22:13:

i seriously doubt purchasing a cheap subwoofer is worth it. the only point in this product would be within the budget 5.1 production area.

you will end up with a slow and boomy sound. surely a pair of studio monitors/decent hi fi speakers will do the job?

the thing just wont have the circuitry capable to drive a large woofer.
especially at the price it is going for...

it ll sound 'amazing' to the unimformed. just like a sony midi hifi sounds 'amazing' to the uninformed.

with regards to whethr a sub is boomy or not...

a cheep sub is boomy, a good one isnt. the sub needs a amp with a damping factor very high. this deftermines how much control the amp has over the driver. then you need a light cone hooked to a powerful motor to drive it. ported doesnt meen boomy. it just means it goes louder and requires a better amp/driver to work.

Dunno right

well I certainly appreciate all you guy's input...

I would like to know if anyone has actually heard this thing?

Posted by T-Soma on Feb-10-2006 22:44:

I cant remember if it was this specific sub or another behringer sub that i heard a few months back and it wasnt that boomy and it still sounded nice a deep. For its price it seemed pretty good.
