Podcasts

What decent ones are out there?

I'm familiar with Digweed's 'Transitions' but I'm yet to find another Podcast from a DJ that I like.

Recommendations can be any genre at all, and if there are any others that you enjoy that aren't even music, feel free to suggest those too.

are podcasts free...or do you have to subscribe to them.....cuase if there free im going home and downloading some sets

Posted by Purple on Feb-03-2006 17:32:

Do you move them to your ipod after downloading or is it you listen to them online live on your ipod?

A podcast is just a buzzword meaning a regularly posted downloadable mix. They run them like shows, you set up a little program that feeds you the files on a regular basis.

It is just a series of downloadable musis, that is all a podcast is, I dont really see why everyone needs to start using this silly gimmicky word, its not like it is some revolutionary new concept.

I admitt is just a fashion word now, but that's because the ipod was the best sold gadget of 2005. In combination with iTunes it's a nice way to get music automatically.

goofy vain meaningless fashion words.

I refuse to say the word podcast in a verbal conversation, it sounds so friggin stupid. Ipods are pretty awesome, I want to own one and I think things like itunes are the future, but I also forsee a future where there are more choices available than just the ipod, where the word podcast will lead to more confusion.

Why not just call them downloads? or series? or RSScast? or syndicast? An audio show without a radio station that uses downloads instead, there has to be a better word to use for such a thing than "podcast", ipods cannot receive any kind of transmission without optional accesories, saying podcast makes people think that they need to have an ipod to listen to the thing when all they really need is a computer.

I feel that the music we listen to on this site is a rejection of popular fashion, and thus should also reject the use of such fashion words. If we are truely forward thinking we wouldn't perpetuate the use of such backward ass words like podcast.

Joachim Garraud's Ze Mixx is a quality podcast

So true.
I think I get that question 100 times a day, since I started this 10 weeks ago.
People don't even bother to check the mixes out, cause they don't own a ipod.

Unfortunatelly there is nothing I can do about it. I have to use the name podcast now.

There's two weely podcasts over at www.progressive-sounds.com

Soundbytes is a 30 minute mix of some of the current and forthcoming releases and the odd unsigned track from some of the scene's biggest producers, or a guest mix from a featured DJ.

Spincast is a 15 minute segment highlighting some of the tracks that have been reviewed on the site, or where a producer showcases a collection of their latest tracks with commentary. This week's guest is Rachael Starr with loads more lined up..

You ain't joking! Cheers for the recommendation.

I subscribed to the Groove Collection podcast too, thanks guys.

Posted by Purple on Feb-04-2006 20:23:

Why they say 'they subscribed' to that podcast and this podcast? They should say that 'I have downloaded that one too' and things like that.

I am not making fun of anyone in here.

Also if anyone can upload anything and anyone can download anything, than dosent it break copyright laws?

No.

I have 'subscribed' because whenever a new mix is uploaded, it will automatically download through iTunes for me. Hence, why I say I am subscribed.

Have anything else to say just to make sure you look like a complete idiot?

In a way: yes, but live sets is a gray area.
The mixes in my podcasts are either specially mixed by the dj as a promotional mix for this podcast (most of the time we get the mix from their management) or it is a live set from a club where we let the dj's sign a contract that they agree that their mix is recorded for this podcast channel.
