there is hope for all of us!!!

he may be old, but he didn't DJ for long

in terms of career length, try and beat Jimmy Saville - he started in the 1940/50's !

geez bro, that prompted me to do some research and look what I found...

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Two turntables and a microphone" is the basic concept of a DJ's equipment.

Turntables (phonographs ) and a microphone are connected to a mixer. The DJ uses the mixer's crossfader to fade between two songs playing on the turntables. Fading includes often beatmatching. Live hip hop music also often has an MC rapping into the microphone. In nightclubs the microphone is usually used only for announcements.

There is a difference between radio jocks and people who spin.

not tape per say but DAT's. it's the anjuna/goa style, you mix of dat's.

No. Goa style of mixing rarely involves beatmatching. Its mainly mixing the ambient parts of the tracks into each other and is much more about the journey rather than technical skills.

Gil is a living legend. He's apparently coming to Sydney later in the year for a small forest party. Really looking forward to see how someone like him plays trance. He plays for 18 hours straight and is the only DJ for the entire event apparently. He's very much about having one focused journey throughout.

I don't knwo exactly the difference between a normal Tape, and a Digital Audio Tape.

what kind of player do you need to play these tapes?

My friend who chilled with goa gil said that he's apparently not as old as people think him to be. Don't know his age though

Posted by 12anceaddict on Feb-06-2006 15:45:

Goa Gil born: 1951
Raja Ram isn't a DJ, but he was born in 1941

David Mancuso was born in 1944
Junior Vasquez in 1946

You need a DAT player. The difference is that on DAT, music is stored digitally, like on a cd, and on normal tape it is recorded analog.

He's old alright but he fell in with that guiness book of records crowd...

Posted by tvmann on Feb-06-2006 21:12:

At 62 there is DJ Derek who works at Notting Hill Arts Club in London. It looks like he does reggae although they have other kinds of music at that club.
