Everyone should read this post

| Originally posted by Arksun Here's what I think, Trance can be a wide variety of styles. I've always believed Trance means a more literal sense of moving someone emotionally and/or physically (Armins ideal behind the title 'a state of trance') If you taste is limited to uplifting only stuff thats fine. If you only like the more 'proggy' stuff, thats fine. If your tastes happen to cover both, or more, thats fine. It's not a crime to only love one, or the other, or indeed both or all. Why waste time trying to convert others to your taste in music. I don't spend hours trying to convince my friends to have the same choice of favourite colour as I do. If I happen to like black and red, doesn't make me anymore right/intelligent/enlightened than say someone thats into blue. All this crap about things going bad/ or betrayal of the trance sound I read in forums from those that only like one style, bullshit. Trance evolves naturally by itself, it grows expands, maybe fills out a little this way.. then spreads out another way a bit later. There's no rules, there's no conspiracy. Just producers making music, thats it!. We make the music we love and believe in and are under no obligation to make what we believe specific people want to hear. The minute you start working like that, then you really do end up producing shite, you have to make it for yourself first. So when a producer who's works you've liked a lot starts to take his music in a direction that doesn't agree to your tastes, cut them a little slack please!. If thats what they want to do let them be, they're not harming you, or threatening your family, you have a choice, a choice not to continue buying their music and find other artists you do like. Remember that others will actually like their new stuff!, and may even garner new fans in the process. Are they wrong and you're right because the producer didn't stick to your tastes. of course not, they just evolved into something different. And that's all the different styles and genres of music are 'different', not better or worse ![]() I've always noticed the tranceaddict forums are such a breeding ground for negativity and its always puzzled me why human nature makes is soo wrapped up into it, this.. this need to convince others we're right, our taste is best. To be truly opened minded, you need to be able to accept the differences, the differences of other peoples tastes, as well as any difference in style a producer may go through throughout their career, and be comfortable with it and move forward in a positive way. I just had to get that little rant out of my system. Arksun |
yeah let's also hope that Arksun can take criticism as a producer.
seems like there are heaps of producers which can't.
Read the post again.

Daft post really. "If you don't like new trance, it's your opinion". So we're not allowed to express that opinion?
Read the post again too, you dont seem to understand it.
He's saying that we can't complain if a producer changes their style to something we don't like, because it's all a matter of opinion. Which to me is a contradiction.

No.
Personally, I think people on TA should just get over their favourite artists being attacked. I've had to defend my tastes a lot of times- it really isn't the end of the world.
says the man who doesnt coonsider universal nation as a classic tune
and yah that was offtopic
Hey, it's not about the Airwave thread in the Releases forum where Arskun post this. Indeed i deleted the part of the post concerning to it. It's just that i found it the best post i have ever read in TA and wanted to share it with you all.

And here we go with the whole negativity vs positivity discussion again.. "BALANCE" is the key word there, but some people can't see that.
I think Arksun is partially right, artists are perfectly entitled to produce whatever the fuck they want to. But in the same way fans are perfectly entitled to praise or criticise whatever they want to. It's just that on occasion some people go a little bit too far and make it personal.
As for Airwave and the quality/lack of quality of his trance, i don't give a fuck.
Well, please lets not go so far.
Although i cant remember a good comment of a trance track from him atm - and indeed i think he sometimes could give a constructive critic too - i have sometimes discover tracks thanks to him. For example, some of the Digital Blonde new tracks thanks to some samples in one of his posts.
Just please read the post and that's all.
Is not beautiful?

Ahh lovely post by arksun. There are some things that must be declared cause this is a BIG CAN OF WORMS that has been opened:
1)Yes arksun may be right to complain about some ppl in here which don't like today's trance but from the other side those ppl (which are many btw) are not complainin without a reason spending hours in a day doing discussions in the forums JUST to accuse a "bland" track. If it was for that they wouldn't bother.
Now what is keep bothering me is the fact that today's trance is not under conspiracy or under anything else as Arksun said but Producers are producing and they are doing their best according to their perception for trance(most of them) .It's just the perception for trance has evolved as has evolved in the past (1996).Also the producers from the gold 1999-2001 went out of the scene or they adjuct their style into the new perception for trance. How the hell anybody could expect anyway the gold 1999-2001 continue without these producers as leaders?
My 3 questions are:
1)What the FUCK did happen and trance evoluted so fast into what is now (from the moment it was so big with the old style)?
2)Why producers one after another left the scene or those who remained adjuct their style?
3)WHY TRANCE SCENE SHRINKED when that evolution happened?(and don't tell me it didn't shrinked)
I know i am reopening a big issue which has been discussed A LOT of times before but its been a long i see many opinions and arguements about this situation and nobody asked those 3 basic questions just that

In 2001 there was a big backlash against anthemic trance. Progressive came in in a big way, which equally upset and delighted clubbers. I think that that brief movement left everyone confused, and this new wave of soft-synth McProg stuff emerged from the pieces.
I dont agree with that argument. Why trance has to be like it was in its roots? I like the mixtures of styles.
If trance would still be the same as 10 years ago we all be bothered of it.
