John Askew's new album

I might seem to spend a lot of time slating recent trance to many of you, but that doesn't mean I've given up on it. And it's records like this that restore my faith.

It's fooking awesome. Thumping. Melodic. Well produced. Acid! There should be more acid in trance. The strange thing is that nobody seems to have noticed it (unless I'm really late). Great stuff, check it out. More of this stuff in 2006, please.

Talking about the Lower the Tone ?

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Feb-05-2006 23:09:

Aye. I wrote it just as the first disc ended- so I don't know if the DJ mix and extra stuff is any good yet. But the actual artist album part is mint.

askew is allright, his style is a continuation of pvd's old banging style. i like his "no nonsense, no big break, no big vocals" style. will possibly pick up the album

His DJing has sadly become increasingly watered down and fluffy over the last 3 years. He still knows how to provide trance with some proper guts without fannying about with silly breakdowns or twinkly melodies though, which is always welcome. Will check this.

Any man with the balls to label a disc 'Live as Fucking Fuck' earns points in my book

definately gotta check this out. saw him play a while back. plus talked to him for a while too, nice guy. knows his stuff.

I've been listening to some of the live disc, and it's alright. The sound quality is deliberately rough, a very "live" feel with the MC and crowd noises. I enjoyed what I heard, but the actual artist album bit is much better.

Big fan of him live, will have to check out the album.

Great Album,

Nail Gun being my favourite track, does exactly what it says on the tin.

also some interesting material on some of the discs

Posted by thesuperfunk on Feb-06-2006 17:15:

picked this up a while ago ... it's a bit disappointing that 'nailgun'/'all or nothing' were the only 2 new tracks on there.

the live set is well past it's sell-by-date and the only decent thing on cd3 is the 'kiss outakes'

all said though it's great to have his back catalogue on cd.

I've only heard two of his tracks prior to this... Vellum and that one that has a spoken sample from Aliens in it.

Arrow

I like it too
I don't like hard trance & all the shit, but his style kind of unique
hard & very melodic

saw him play along with greg downey last saturday at esacpe, swansea, askew is a top bloke all round, his mixing was spot on, and tune selection was also. he deffo knows how to work the crowd, and his style of banging, hard euphoric trance just never dissapoints.
had a good old chin wag with him on the dance floor, proper sound bloke, shame his kiss100 show has finished now though, was always good fun, as you can prob tell from the out takes on disc 3.
will deffo be grabbing this album, cant go wrong 10 free delivery from hmv!!
anyway, askew is a top bloke, if any of you guys get the chance to see him, you wont be dissapointed.

right im off to bed, shattered!!

max
