Religion
Was wondering what everyone's views were on religion...the universe...and everything. I grew up in a bible belt state with a bible belt family and am only now realizing that its probably all BS. My parents tried to get me counseling because I told them I don't believe the christian bible. I think "God" was created as a way to control humans.
I don't believe in organized religion and how it's used. I also think that, with all the hundreds of religions out there, its ignorant to think that your religion is the one that accurately describes how the universe, or multiple universes as it might be, was created. Now days, I think most people use religion as a way of life, and don't really care to look into how the universe was created. I think church keeps people from accepting change, which in turn, slows the advancement of our society and ability to understand the universe further.
I think that, at the time, God was the best explanation for how life came to be on this planet. I mean, come on, we used to think the earth was flat. That was the best explanation we had at the time for how the Earth was. Now look at all we know.
If a God does exist, I don't think its in the form of any of the religions we have on this Earth.
Sorry for the serious talk..lol..but just wondering what other people think.

I dont want to go heavy handed into the discussion, but many religions offer the same or extremely similar advice and direction on living life. It's ridiculous that people fight more over what label you wear than what you actually believe in.
ahh!! religion! christians and crusades! muslims....peace but blowing up all over the place, ah!! jews....old religion doesn't fit with modern times!!! ummm...religion is cause of all evil...oh and it's dumb.
I think that should pretty much cover all the points that will be made in this thread.
Also, I'm Christian and studied all sides of the argument long before making my decision.

I grew up Roman Catholic and attended Catholic grade school and highschool. We didnt get a lot of exposure to other belief systems at all, and I never really thought of anything else until I got to college. Ive studied Eastern religions, and I know a little about Middle Eastern religion, and those of India... and Im convinced that none of us have it right. Im a scientist, so its really hard for me to be a Christian (which is why Im not), but its also difficult for me to write off the entire notion that there is some kind of higher being. The whole "if 99% of the world believes in a supernatural being, then how can it be wrong?" question has always weighed in on my mind. Im probably closest to what we consider a Universalist. I believe that we should all try and be good people, and that if we are good people and if there is a heaven, we will get there. I dont believe by any stretch of the imagination that there is One True God. If god is, god is for everyone.

| Originally posted by Masonious What faith is there to be had in facts? Faith says one is willing to believe in something without proof. Science can offer no explanation for how something came of nothing; so ultimately faith comes into play. One side accepts the idea that we're here due to supernatural reasons and the other feels that no valid, scientific reason has yet been brought forth for our existence. edit: by rejected I meant accepted ![]() i'm realllly drunk |
I just see the facts and make up to what i believe is the truth.
I dont believe in god. I do believe that we at the end of the day are just a bunch of space dust that has evolved into human beings after billions of years.
I'm not sure about the existence of intelligent life out there.

I know, I was going to add "even though I know the answer" to that post but I wanted to see if youd take the bait and go with it.
