Scientists find hundreds of new species in a Lost World

| An astonishing mist-shrouded "lost world" of previously unknown and rare animals and plants high in the mountain rainforests of New Guinea has been uncovered by an international team of scientists. Among the new species of birds, frogs, butterflies and palms discovered in the expedition through this pristine environment, untouched by man, was the spectacular Berlepsch's six-wired bird of paradise. The scientists are the first outsiders to see it. They could only reach the remote mountainous area by helicopter, which they described it as akin to finding a "Garden of Eden". In a jungle camp site, surrounded by giant flowers and unknown plants, the researchers watched rare bowerbirds perform elaborate courtship rituals. The surrounding forest was full of strange mammals, such as tree kangaroos and spiny anteaters, which appeared totally unafraid, suggesting no previous contact with humans. |
cool eh?
Oh that is the coolest thing I've read in a long long time.

Fine, I'll add a 'and' after the comma. Everyone knows there's nothing to see on the moon (I hope that's what you were referring to).

pics plz!
Am I the only person having difficulty believing this?
It seems more like a joke then science.
It would be nice to believe. The Independant is a pretty well known paper.
Would be nice to see pics of these animals.
If they photographed the gaint squid why not these???
the second I find out this was fake or something like that I'm gonna delete this thread and ban myself from TA. I hate making a fool of myself where I say or believe one thing to other people and then it turns out it was fake or wrong.

Very cool, although I'm not to impressed with the fact that they went into the location. As a species we tend to ruin just about every environment that we touch, so it's not so cool that they went into an unknown climate with these animals, leaving behind human cells and bacteria that we all carry.
Knowing scientist they will end up taking species of plants, and animals out of the environment, instead of just leaving it be and observing from afar.
I'd for sure like to see some pictures, and have documented research about this "new" place, but IMHO I think we should just leave the entire area untouched.
Anybody else feel this way?

This is totally cool. I really hope they just leave the place alone. Human activity would totally suck in such a beautiful place.

Holy crap, literally one minute after clicking this thread, the local news had a story about it.
WITH PICTURES (albeit only 4 or 5). I was a little sceptical too until the news ran this story as I was reading the thread
Its cool untill they eff it up like humans always do...
there will be condos on high mountains and in rainforrests before we know it....
humans ruin anything having to do with nature....
its sad
Nikitha
buddy looks pissed.
So much for all that talk about scientists having explored every part of the world, and having observed everything there is to see on this planet. You can throw that theory out the window
That's pretty cool for sure, and further lends credence that we know a lot less about ourselves, the planet we live on, and the universe around us than we think.
