pronunciation of djs and such

hey how do you pronounce some things, like paul van dyk? i heard it was something different...how about other ones?

Posted by Ibiza Dreams on Jan-19-2002 03:51:

Smile Tongue Pronouncing

Paul van Dyk is pronounced Paul Van Dike (I'm assuming this is right)

Tiesto/Tijs Verwest = Tice Wear Vest

I think this is the correct Dutch pronounciation of Tiesto's real name.

ID

i remember hearing one german mc going ..blah blah blah pau faan dook ...

lemme ask a question out of the topic.

Veracocha - Carte Blanche..

French ? or what ??

isit pronunced as "Kart Blond-Shay" ???

Posted by Pjotr G on Jan-19-2002 17:55:

The creators are dutch, "carte blanche" is french

it means you can do whatever the hell you want

pronounced "Cart Blahnsh" kinda

with a french accent

thanks, those look better

Posted by Prodje on Jan-19-2002 21:44:

Deruyter -> duh r-UH-Y-t-uh-r (stress on ruy)

and carte blache can't really be translated literally i think... to get "carte blanche" means that someone (eg. an employer) allows you to do whatever you please, no restrictions (it's pronounched "cart blaansh" w/ a french accent, not blonk, that'd be blanc, the male form of blanche )

there may be another explanation but that's about as far as my french stretches

Some dutch accents are hard to translate into english...like how we pronounce "ij" is a bit like "a" ...and the "g" is like how jewisch people say chchchch.

so "tijs" is neither of the 4 you mentioned. more like - t "a" s - but then patched together.Verwest is kinda like - Furwest -

Posted by tiesto14 on Jan-19-2002 22:36:

dam thats hard..LOL.....so i would pronounce his name TAS??...

Posted by Prodje on Jan-19-2002 22:46:

Tijs is pronounced Tays, like hay (stuff that cows eat) with a T and an S
