Possible new TranceAddict Feature.....
As the site continues the grow I cannot help but look at other options as means of conserving bandwidth and resources. I've pondered over re-encoding all MP3s in MP3 Pro format but that would cause some headaches - maybe something to look at down the line, but not right now.
Ok... Stuff that will happen:
- Single-button click to add a Single to your AudioGalaxy Satellite Queue (assuming your satellite is up and running and/or you have cookies enabled and they're still active on AudioGalaxy.com)
Stuff that might happen
- I am toying with the idea of Peer to Peer file sharing on a private node.
eDonkey2000 works under Windows9x/ME/NT/2k/XP and Linux - it is about 1 meg in size and uses around 4 megs of memory. It has built-in IRC support and allows for some customization to help make my life (and yours) easier.
Features:
Upon selecting a directory (or files) to share the files are assigned an ID based on MD-4 hashing/encryption - to use simple english - if you search for a file that was posted on here and 5 different people have it (but under different filenames) it will show up as the same file - assuming exact file size & consistant ID3 tag information. Soooo, just like Morpheus, etc. it will pool all those 5 users (assuming they have slots/bandwidth free) and download little pieces of the file from each of the user - just like a download accelerator.
What I need from some of you.....
I know all of some of you want to share the music, so, what better way than to help me spread some of the files? You could choose to share a liveset, a single, ALL the singles from a certain update, a number of updates, or a combination of all of these - it doesn't matter.
You have the option of setting the max amount of bandwidth you want to use - so set it to 15 kb/sec or 10 or 50 or whatever you want.. Point being - if I get enough people to help distribute files (even at 5 or 10 kb/sec) - that adds up fast when you get 100+ ppl all sharing a little bit of the pie.

Instructions:
Download the Windows client - eDonkey57.exe
Open the file, install it to DEFAULT location (c:\Program Files\eDonkey2000) - (say NO to installing Gator at the beginning)
Then, install TAdonkey.exe - open it - click extract and overwrite the files.
Now click on your eDonkey2000 icon and go into Options - set your UserName (if you want), and the max bandwidth you want to use. Then proceed to Sharing and select the directory you want to share - remember - it shares ALL the files in there regardless of extension, so please make sure that you don't have other junk in there you don't wnat other ppl to see.
Finally go to Server and right click on the one listed and choose Connect.
Right now I'm up and running my client sharing the newest singles from this week's update - let's see how well this works - those of you that also downloaded some files from there this week (Jan 14th update) then please share some of them so we can see how well this works.

This is a trial run....whether or not it turns into an ugly mess remains to be seen - but - if I see anyone sharing Albums on there then I'll ban your IP from connecting to the server.
Also, nifty little feature lets you add customized searching criteria - so - under search if you pick TranceAddict Search you can type in the date the update was posted and it'll return ALL matches from that date (or at least it should)
I hope that all made sense - if you run into problems come into the chatroom, I'll be awake for the next 2 hours at least....
sure Swampz i'll download the program
but not now, im tired and dont feel like doin all the procedures
first thing tomorow
the ag one sounds cool, have you seen the one where it says under their name if they're online or not? that ones cool too
sounds great swamper. i'll give that program a try a little later tonight. keep up the good work.
Much Respect for all the work you've done.
I'm on this project.
Thanks Swamper.
I tried it, and as I'm behind a HTTP-proxy I got a "Can't connect.." message. So I tried to pipe it through Socks2HTTP, which works nicely for AG and KaZaA, and got a "Placed in connection queue" message before the "Can't connect.." message appeared.
Well, if those AG-links will be there, I can use those
hey swamper
the eDonkey download from the eDonkey site itself isn't working... i tried the link & went to the site and nav'd through it... Is the file still on his server?
Anyway, i like the new idea. I'm game, esp. since i leave my computer on 24/7 and TA on 24/7 and AG on 24/7
-ABT-
OK i got it working, all connected and stuff
took a while to "hash" the files in my shared directory, 1000 of them lol
maybe i should set up a folder just for the stuff from TA ?
I can have mine running overnight to help ease the load on the TA server.
Peace
Works perfect! Hope that many people join=more bandwith for the forum!
Just one question: If it`s a closed "private" network: Is there a possibility to see who (which user) is online?
I've installed it, and it seems to be working great. I only have 7kb/s upstream, but at least it's something

oh, and y does that program take sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking long to share my mp3s??
i mean, its only 9gig or so and im already loading 15mins!!
so if u edit the tags on files u get from sitez such as TA then u aint gonna b helpin the system much? rite?
every1 thats logged onto Swamps thingie, join the chat!!! (channel = #tranceaddict fcourse
)
sure ill give this a go, i can only offer 15k/sec upload max but thats still better than nowt, ill join, not just yet, only just got my comp running after massive headaches
Been running the prog for about a hour now, seams stable, and works well. Anything that helps take of the strain of the TA servers is a good idea.
Jon
Swamper- I've got a question for you. I see that you say no albums (fine by me) but what if one were to do a remix or edit of a song? Would it be ok to have that in your shared folder for upload? I realize that you would have to change the ID tag in order to do that.
Also, what about sets? I don't mean ones that we've downloaded from TA....but ones that we've put together ourselves. Are these things acceptable to share?

So is it ok to share livesets?
I completely understand the non-sharing of albums. I don't collect alot of singles. hahaha, mainly because you guys have them all and I'd just ask everyone here if I ever needed a single.
If live sets are ok, then I'll be up and running too. I do have one single El Debarge - Rhythm of the Night! 80s rock!

keep up the great work swamper

I like the AG links - so much easier than competing for the dl-server. Thank you very much
