New gig for me!
After being a lazy ass for quite a while, I decided to hop down to a *banquet hall* and talked (met) to the DJ the first time. He plays some 'persian music' along with house and techno, and I play house/techno. So we arranged it so that next Sat. I will play with him...somewhat of a back to back thing. I gave him a demo cd which he played for the croud (opening hours) and he and some other girl, said they liked the mixing...which was done around 4/5 months ago. (I.e. I've improved from when I made that cd)
Only thing that has got my nerves going now is:
1. I have ONE week to prepare!!!
2. I can't set out a pre-selected tracklist like my first gig that I played, because of these 'back to back' phenomena
3. He plays from 10 pm to 2 am... I am NOT used to mixing 4 hours straight.
4. I have to bring my own two TTs and records (because he only spins cds, and I only spin vinyl)
5. I don't know how to use that damn (I think it was a Numark dual cd player) cd player. Cue? Buttons? Lights? Wheel? Wtf?
6. How I'm going to bring all this crap from my house to the event. (I don't drive, I'm young, I can't really call someone I know to drive me there, can I? Taxi is too expensive, and public transit...out of the question)
7. The crowd.
Well, now I have to buy two flight cases, and figure all this out, as well as calm my nerves...all in a week!
PS: They have no MONITORS.
Good luck and have fun!

Like you say it's not a club, and it's your first gig. Why stress about it. Any mistakes will help you learn anyway. Just don't take the needle off the wrong record. |

Just keep your head cool, and everything will work out fine. Tell him that you never played on the mixer which you will be using, and that you'd like to show up an hour or so earlier to be able to get a bit more comfortable with their setup.
Sok sikert!
What banquet hall?

About the needle thing though, trust me, I don't want that to happen to me again. |
That's what I told myself after my first gig.

(As of late, I am really making a bad effort to promote myself)

| Originally posted by Ministerio I never done any shit like this before! Before this I had two warm up slots (dif dates) at a restaurant/lounge And a 15 min set (venue had some technical problems, closing) This will be my 4th 'gig' in front of 'people' In no way a real club gig though. And if I don't make a perfect demo by this Saturday, and make at least 5 copies to give out...I'm going to kick myself!! (As of late, I am really making a bad effort to promote myself)Did I mentioned I am scared as fuck? I really have a lot of progressive tunes, but no CRAZY, DANCING house tunes... so I'll buy 3/4 tracks before sat. (Probably more, since I need something to play during peak hours) And set programming...don't get me started... I have no idea how I'll do that. (We are both playing back to back from 10-2am) But I might leave early though, because I don't know if I can keep up for that long. And I'm probably bringing all 130/140 of my records. I can start with progressive house, then vocal house (for the ladies, no?) then more progressive, tribal...?) |

Back to back is the way I learned and its very fun
There are those odd tracks that will have a weird break in it and throw it all off
As long as you know your stuff you should be fine, it makes for a good variety on tracks with two different djs.
I can see your point - Morillo B2B with Sasha just not right, but in the end who REALLY cares. You may have some hot chicks come up to you later saying they prefered the tracks you played. You sholdn't feel under pressure, no-one will be there watching over your shoulder pointing and laughing if you make an error. Just think of it like your at a mates party, and their all pissed. i.e. noone coherant enough to notice...
