2006 NFL Offseason Thread
hey guys figured this thread needed to be made so we can keep up on draft news and free agency moves.
So to start it off here is a mock draft i found :
1. Houston Texans - Reggie Bush*, RB USC
If the Texans pick up David Carr�s $8 million roster bonus, they�ll either pick Bush or trade down.
2. New Orleans Saints - Matt Leinart, QB USC
Matt Leinart? Vince Young? Jay Cutler? It doesn�t matter as long as it isn�t Aaron Brooks!
3. Tennessee Titans � Vince Young*, QB Texas
Steve McNair doesn�t have many years left and Young could use a year or two to improve his game. His upside, however, is unlimited, and he�s worth a top-ten pick. I could also see the Titans moving down a few spots to gain an extra pick or two. They have a lot of holes to fill.
4. New York Jets � D�Brickashaw Ferguson, OT Virginia
The loss of offensive tackle Kareem McKenzie to free agency last year turned out to be a huge one, and Ferguson could anchor the left side for years to come.
5. Green Bay Packers � Mario Williams*, DE North Carolina State
A consistent pass rush would do wonders for the development of their young secondary and Mario Williams is the best defensive end in college football.
6. Oakland Raiders � A.J. Hawk, OLB Ohio State
The Raiders won�t be tempted by Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler here simply because Al Davis likes Andrew Walter. Look for the Raiders to grab a playmaker on defense in the first round.
7. San Francisco 49ers � Vernon Davis*, TE Maryland
The 49ers have a lot of holes and they could look at a guy like Texas defensive back Michael Huff or Iowa linebacker Chad Greenway. But I feel Davis is a better value and would add another dimension to the 49ers� offense.
8. Buffalo Bills � Haloti Ngata*, DT Oregon
The loss of nose tackle Pat Williams has been devastating for the Bills run defense. Ngata is the top defensive tackle, in my opinion, and he has the tremendous size needed to stuff the run.
9. Detroit Lions � Michael Huff, DB Texas
Detroit�s defense isn�t far from being very good, and the addition of Huff could really pull the unit together. The Lions could also opt to add a pass rusher like Penn State�s Tamba Hali or maybe even consider Cutler here.
10. Arizona Cardinals � Jay Cutler, QB Vanderbilt
Cutler has a great arm and, with Arizona�s weapons at wide receiver, could really take the club�s offense to an explosive level.
11. St. Louis Rams - Tamba Hali, DE Penn State
Leonard Little will be 31 this year and the team could use another pass rusher in the rotation.
12. Cleveland Browns - Chad Greenway, LB Iowa
Linebackers are key to Crennel�s defense and I expect him to continue concentrating on solidifying the unit early in the draft.
13. Baltimore Ravens � LenDale White*, RB USC
Jamal Lewis came on strong toward the end of the �05 season, but he may not be back with the team in �06. White is another bruising type of runner who could fill the same role.
14. Philadelphia Eagles � DeMeco Ryans, LB Alabama
Keith Adams just doesn�t cut it on the weak side, and needs to be replaced. Ryans is solid in both run support and pass coverage.
15. Atlanta Falcons - DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis,
Warrick Dunn still is running well, but he's 31-years old, and T.J. Duckett finished the season horribly, rushing for 39 yards in his last 43 carries.
16. Miami Dolphins � Eric Winston, Miami (FL)
The Dolphins need a lot of help on the offensive line, and Winston could step in and play immediately. He possesses great size and intelligence, and can play either on the left or right side.
17. Minnesota Vikings � Laurence Maroney*, RB Minnesota
The Vikings need to settle the running back position once and for all. Michael Bennett will probably be gone next year and Onterrio Smith can�t be counted on if he is back.
18. Dallas Cowboys � Winston Justice*, OT USC
The Cowboys could look to free agency to fill their needs on the offensive line, but if they don�t, they could address the position early in the draft.
19. San Diego Chargers � Santonio Holmes*, WR Ohio State
The Chargers lack a true No. 1 receiver and Keenan McCardell is 35-years old.
20. Kansas City Chiefs � Jimmy Williams, CB Virginia Tech
The Chiefs still need playmakers on defense, and if Williams is still on the board this late in the round, the pick is a no-brainer for KC.
21. New England Patriots - Ernie Sims*, LB Florida State
The Patriots have three starting linebackers over the age of 30, and desperately need to add some youth to the unit.
22 Denver Broncos (from Washington) - Mathias Kiwanuka, DE Boston College
The Broncos have plenty of depth on the defensive line, but the lack of a pass rush hurt them in the playoffs. They need to add a player who can consistently create pressure.
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers � Thomas Howard, LB UTEP
Offensive line is a bigger need, but Thomas Howard is a better value and should be ready to take over the weak side when Brooks starts to slow down.
24. Cincinnati Bengals � Leonard Pope*, TE Georgia
A run-stuffing defensive lineman is a bigger need here, but Pope is a better value at this point than any of the tackles still on the board, and is just too good of an offensive weapon to let pass.
25. New York Giants � Ashton Youboty*, Ohio State
Will Peterson is contemplating retirement and Will Allen is in the final year of his contract.
26. Chicago Bears � Tye Hill, CB Clemson
Quick receivers give the Bears� corners problems, and with Jerry Azumah probably not returning, the Bears could add some needed speed to the position.
27. Carolina Panthers � Marcedes Lewis, TE UCLA
The Panthers need weapons to complement wide receiver Steve Smith. Lewis has good size and, although he doesn�t have great speed, does a great job of separating from defenders.
28. Jacksonville Jaguars � Elvis Dumervil, DE Louisville
The Jags have a tough defense, but they could use a speed rusher from the outside to help conceal the deficiencies in the secondary.
29.Denver Broncos � Darnell Bing*, S USC
John Lynch is 34-years old and nearing the end of his career, so the Broncos could be looking for a successor.
30. Indianapolis Colts � Max Jean-Gilles, Georgia
The Colts� line could use a massive guard like Jean-Gilles to help keep defenders out of Peyton Manning�s face.
31. Seattle Seahawks � Taitusi Lutui, OG USC
It�s uncertain whether the 35-year-old Chris Gray will return, so this is a position of need even if the Seahawks do re-sign Steve Hutchinson.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Nick Mangold, C Ohio State
Jeff Hartings is 33-years old and the Steelers would like to start grooming a replacement.

I think Lendale White will fall, but falling to #13... that is a steal... I think he's going to be the shit in the NFL... I think he's a top 3 pick any other year other than this year...
I don't know, I think I see him falling as low as #8 or #9... I can't see him falling beyond #10...
the biggest question ?
who will take marcus vick ?
i think the pittsburgh steelers will take him, convert him to wide receiver, and cowher is going to draw up some random play with randel el and vick together
saw that the Patriots are talking seriously about signing Antwan randle-el
I was going to say... I think Randel-el is going to be a big target... and don't think he will still be with the Steelers next year...
I actually think Antwan will be too much money for the Pats... but he'd be perfect...
Ricky williams fails drug test again
Dolphins running back violated NFL drug policy for his fourth time and is now facing a one year suspension.
Guy finally starts getting it together and has a productive season and mucks it up again...idiot
Titans pick Young and trade Volek.
4 years ago, Ricky Williams was the best fantasy running back... he was incredible...
and now... all I can say is... WOW...

rumour is that the Jets have hired the Sopranos to take out a hit on Chad Pennington to solve the QB and salary cap issues and to get some promo for the March 12th premier on HBO (call you local cable operator to order HBO)

miami has to get a qb of the future in the first round....but if atlanta does put Matt schaub on the trading block i think the dolphins should pounce and offer up the second rounder that the falcons are asking

I think Schaub is a better qb than Vick..and is pretty steady in the pocket and is very good at reading defenses
Vick is Vick... I don't think you can really compare any QB to Vick... he's a sucky POCKET QB, yes... but the man wins games...
Vince Young will suck in the NFL, and I'll be so glad of the TITANS take him, cause they suck too!

Well, the time is past and it looks like we won't see an extension of the CBA.
Some big names already cut are Trevor Pryce, Mike Anderson, Sam Adams, and Lawyer Milloy. These players aren't necessarily at the level they once were, but should be good for many teams out there...
Stephen Davis and Rod Smart (He Hate Me) have also been cut. Sam Madison and Tebucky Jones are looking for new teams too

Davis was cut - he's getting old, and was pretty much injured all last year. That, and his salary was too high to keep him on.
I dunno, what about if the Dolphins went after Patrick Ramsay instead? He's a proven QB who's started, and played decently - it's just Gibbs just didn't like him. I'm sure he could be had for a 3rd, even 4rd rounder. Plus, he wouldn't be all that expensive either.
If Ricky is indeed suspended, do you see Mike Anderson moving there? Could be a great back-up to Ronnie Brown.

I thought Glover was a DE? And you're right though, he'd still make an impact on certain teams. Wouldn't be surprised if the Raiders signed him
Going back to the Dolphins again - I totally forgot to mention probably the biggest free agent QB available - Drew Brees. Hands down, I'd rather see him in Miami then anyone else - it's just too bad the Fins don't have many quality WR other then Chambers. I like McMichael, but he doesn't play a huge role - he's a TE though, right?

Glover is a Defensive Tackle. In the last 5 years or so, teams with huge defensive tackles and mobile linebackers have built decent defenses because and good DT can occupy two blockers.
Brees would be a huge pickup for Miami, who will probably only have Brown coming out of the backfield...?
