4. Outwork - Elektro (DJ DLG Mix Feat. Mr Gee)
5. Max Graham vs Coldplay - Talk
6. Jody Wisternoff - Cold Drink, Hot Girl

Props for playing Todd Terje, Mjndalens finest. Will check it out.

Nice, I've been looking for this Todd Terje track ID for a bit now. Thanks for the heads up.

New Jody track is excellent.

Nice selection but this set is all over the place and the mixing leaves something to be desired.

That's how Jody's sets tend to be, stylistically speaking. Mixing left something to be desired? I didn't hear a single trainwreck. Perhaps you wanted lengthier transitions...but now it's just down to nitpicking and subjectivity.

Sorry next time I'll make sure not to leave any opinions on the mix.

Posted by RebeL9 on Feb-13-2006 05:01:

wow everyone loves Ticon

No need to get your knickers in a bind. I'm just trying to understand your complaints...i.e. "The mixing leaves something to be desired." I don't understand why. Fair enough? It makes me think there's something wrong with my hearing.

Perhaps what UWM is trying to say is that Jody's mixing is rather simplistic in this set and somewhat predictable. A DJ doesn't have to trainwreck for his mixing to leave something to be desired, for example (And I'm NOT trying to start a battle here, just an example) I would say that Armin's mixing certainly leaves something to be desired in that almost all of his mixes follow a very "cookie cutter" pattern, something that some people love him for. I'm not faulting Armin for mixing this way, it's just part of his style I've grown not to enjoy so much.

IMO, in this set Jody's mixes (I'm only listening to this for the first time now) seem to follow a bit of a pattern, and for a few of the transitions it's not that he trainwrecks, but simply that I feel a different style of mix would have been more appropriate. This also seems to coincide with that fact that stylistically, the set is definitely going in a few different directions at once, and never really seems to settle into one well defined groove.

It's still a good set, there are just some minor issues with it IMO, just like in many other sets by terrific DJ's such as Jody. Unfortunately, I simply think I've heard better from him, and hope that I was perhaps able to elaborate on and articulate UWM's criticism a bit more.

Cheers.

And Bobby, sorry if I totally missed the point you were trying to make...

Pretty much hit the nail on the head actually

i see what you're saying and i am exactly the opposite. i LOVE how his mixing is so simple cus it just blends in so nicely for me. he's one of the few dj's where i can say "perfect tracklist"

like i said though, this isn't my favorite jody mix but it's still pretty good. check out the other mix i posted and tell me what you think about that one. the mixing is A LOT more complicated in that set

Posted by vinnie97 on Feb-13-2006 18:19:

Fair enough...thanks for your clarification. He tends to keep you guessing stylistically but that is something I've always liked about him and, to me, is the opposite of simplicity. Yes, the mixing in here is pretty basic but check out his last released compilation, Way Out There, from 2001 if you want something more involved (and the set referenced above is also a pretty good example).

this set is great, until Max G's bootleg of 'Talk' comes in... don't get me wrong, i LOVE Max G and i love that track, but it couldn't have been played at a worse time in the set. after the bouncy retro electro vibe of the first 4 tracks, it just sounds sooooo out of place.

at least he brings the funk back in with 'Cold Drink, Hot Girl' and keeps it goin' from there.

the mix from July Sunset into Eurodans is really abrupt, i don't like it.

also, glad to see Antartica - Antartica (Sun Version) finally make it into someone's set... i've been loving that track for a while now.

edit // and while we're on the subject of hybridized.org, Micah's mixes are great!!

thanks for the sets, much appreciated.

I hear where you're coming from, since it's the most proggiest sounding ditty in the set up to that point...but it's still got some electro-sounding elements. Besides, predictable is no fun.

No probs, Eletrikal. The ultimate thanks goes to the artists who sent over this material (namely, Jody, Shiloh and Micah in this thread).

good programming and being predictable are 2 totally different things. it'd be totally unpredictable of me to drop Armin Van Buuren - Shivers after Pryda - Aftermath... but it sure wouldn't sound good!

Posted by vinnie97 on Feb-15-2006 19:11:

Of course but it's all subjective on how well one feels they may fit or not fit. Each scenario is different but the mood isn't altered on any significant scale when the Talk bootleg comes in, IMO. Since he mixes in key, it helps to minimize the slight style differentiation. If you want to get nitpicky about prog versus electro moments, that Ticon track near the end also defies previous electro/80's tinged tracks. We'll probably be running in circles soon...
