on the topic of your mix -

I listened to the first hour of this mix last night before I went out to dinner. I really enjoyed hearing those familiar silky-smooth mixes of yours. I'll be listening to the rest of it tonight - but very enjoyable so far.

Overall good set. Your mixing is super smooth, maybe smoother than mine. Though the tracks were older there were some new tracks to me that I enjoyed. As I was listening, I felt the start of the set is great. The flow and track selection really got my blood moving. Unfortunately I felt the energy level plateau after the Sshh - That Body (Infusion Mix). The progression from "That Body" to a two track lull to an uplifting track that slowly progressed into breaks was well done. Perhaps a little too smooth that it got monotonous because the last half of the set sounded like the first half but with breaks.

If I had to be knit picky, my biggest complaint would be the lack of adventure. Maybe I'm overanalyzing this mix but I felt there was no risk being taken. I already know you can mix smoothly. I already know you like a mixture of house and breaks, like your EDM Soundsystem set, usually from a house to breaks progression. I felt you could have done more to push yourself and further your own unique style.

I really appreciate your detailed criticism Scott. Thanks for taking the time to listen. I think I agree with you too. I know it had a long plateau like you said and it didn't really build into anything with much energy or anything that was different from the rest. I know I could have done a better job with the progression and there are a lot of old tracks in there but it's all music that I love and I just really enjoy listening to this mix. I had a lot of fun making this and I think I'll be recording a lot more longer sets in the future.

I hope to get some more criticism from you guys!

I am retrying to download now. I do not think that my review can come even close to the Zen Master over there, but I will try to give you my feeling from a non-DJ view!

Thanks buddy! Don't cut me no slack either!

Enjoyed this set! Wasnt sure if I was gonna dl it (Im kinda lazy about dl-ing sets) but I simply couldnt resist after looking at the dark as hell tracklist...and seeing some prog-breaky goodness. I about died when I heard that mix of Salvationnever heard that remix of it before; evil as hell! With the momentum of that track I feel you could have blown it up a bit more. Juice killed me though.

I have a question, did you perhaps mislabel dangerous music original mix, cause that sure doesnt sound like the bonham and dirty hertz mix that Ive been completely obsessing over for the past 10 months!! lol. Either that or you mixed the hell out of that track because I could barely identify it and even found myself rewinding the set over and over to find it cause I thought I was hearing shit.

Anyway back to the set, Im not hard to please in general if things are dark, minor, and breaky, so I may be a bit biased. Overall though, I would have liked to see a bigger peak 2/3 through, and in general more variety of tracks (if anything, to give the nice dark tracks some more punch). Um, yeah, last two tracks: absolute killers. Thanks for the tuneage.

Posted by KristineClub on Feb-16-2006 23:56:

Thanks to everyone who has listened. Maybe you guys will appreciate it more if you hear it as if I was opening up a night instead of playing a peak-hour set because that's really how it was intended to sound. Feel free to leave some more comments.

Nope, I just checked the label. The original on the flip is a very nice breaks track and I actually like it a lot more than the remix but I think the remix fit better in the set.

Holy shit now I'm flipping out! You're right Peach! For some reason, I always thought the red side of the record was the AA side but it's not. The mp3 I have is mislabeled also. Maybe I just wanted the breaks track to be the original since I'm such a huge Digital Witchcraft fan (and Habersham). Damn, I'm glad you noticed.

But yeah, it's one sick track and probably would have sounded nice in this set but I didn't want to throw the breaks in that soon.

Nice set Greg. It's so you! heh. If you intended it to sound like an opening set, it really does have that sound. I enjoyed the beginning part of the set alot. Later on in the set I felt the energy level subside, but I like this tactic for an opening set. Lets you rest up a bit before the headliner comes on. I especially liked the progression of the last two tracks to lift the energy up just at the end of your set. Well done!

Posted by KristineClub on Feb-17-2006 00:25:

Thanks Evan! I'm glad you heard what I was trying to do with the last track although the drop of energy after the last half of the set was not intended.
