was wondering if anyone has used other needles besides spherical ones for recording and if it made a worth while difference.

If you've already used sphericals on your records, don't change to elliptical. That will tear them up. You are only supposed to use one needle shape over the life of your records.

If you're ripping the vinyl to your computer, you still have to keep the vinyl for the legal right to play the files.

Anyway, if you've been using spherical, then use spherical.
